Is there any difference? I know the older ones are referred to as Inimidators, and the new ones are 288's. Is it just the name?

Same thing, different name. I read somewhere they dropped the Intimidator name when Dale Earnhardt "Intimidator" passed. Dont know if thats true for sure or not...

Something like that. From what I had heard some bass boat company made a Dale Earnhardt special addition bass boat called the Intimidator and was whining about Sunsation using the name too. It all came to a head when he died.(This is just what I had heard.)
Personally Nascar does nothing for me so I really don't see what the big deal was.

Another boat manufacturer had already trademarked the Intimidator name on a boat.

Intimidator and 288 are the same boat...just different names.

Nothing to do with his passing.

Coincidental timing with #3's demise.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking that they were the same, but wasn't sure if there might have been some hull changes (add steps, pad, etc.). I guess I should post this on the Sun site, but does anyone know what year they started the Intimidator / 288? I've decided I need one, but need an older one to be able to afford it. Not sure I can find one near what I could pay tho, maybe next year.

Gambler worked with Dale Earhardt to make the Intimidator version of one of their Bass boats.
