As of now for myself this is an irrelevant conversation. I am a college grad who is indecisive as to what type of career i wish to pursue. I have no money for a boat. I do however have unbridled access to a very nice Cobalt, and earn enough doing side jobs to afford gas. This boat is ten years old, runs in the low 60's with a 454 mag, and other than the faded gel coat is a perfect boat. The owner puts it in the water and pretty much forgets about it, it is astounding as to how well it has held up. If I had the money I would buy the new 343 http://www.cobaltboats.com/model_line/343/index.html with some 525's and drive the snot out of it. The only older boats that still look good in my area are the cobalts.
I voted formula, but would have to say that they are even with Donzi in my book. I like the boats with the amenities, outright performance is not my main concern with a boat. I have never seen one in person, but from pictures I would have to say concept seams like one of the best new boat buys out there. I would like to see a concept with an extended cabin that catered more to the weekender than the fisherman. |
|
|
| gft |
CIGARETTE - for going fast and looking pretty
CONCEPT - for looking good while getting to the
dive spot or fishin hole fast |

I kind of thought the Cigs would have it. I voted for Sunsation, not only because of brand loyalty, but because I got burned on a POS brand of boat and it took me 2 years to find someone to buy it, and the whole two years all I did was shop, and guess what, I now own a 288 Sunsation. I just bought it 2 months ago, so I think that is close enough to tomorrow :-)
Now, if you say 3 years from now.....Sunsation 40.....but I will have to see it first, but I am pretty confident it will have the characteristics I am looking for. :winker: |

Hmmmmmmmmm, do I stay loyal to the cat's or go with a roomy Deep "V"?
Sure like a cabin (even if it's small) on my cat, but the power and handling of a Nor-Tech cat would really be had to pass up (or just plain pass---lol). Must say that I really like the roomy cabin on the Black Thunders. Quality, speed although limited, looks, and man what headroom downstairs!!!!
After much thought, I would not give up the handling and big water ride that a Deep "V" just can't give ya.
Nor-Tech 36' cat with a pair of TMP 1200's. YES!!!! |

I'm so sick of dealing with spineless boat sales people right now I'll happily go through winter not even thinking about my next boat. Most of them are total wimps when it comes to going back to owners on counter offers and all they want to do is get you financed for more or have you dig deeper in your own pocket for more money.
:dead: :dead: :dead: :dead: |

Oooops. Someone's frustrated.
I am too. My small boat's in the driveway. Can see it from where I am. Works slow today - everyone's travelling, not buying. Just doing paperwork and tracking down those who owe us money. Of course they are travelling too and unreachable of course.
Motor for the other boat is on the dyno. Someday that will be done.
Anyway - back to the question.
I too would like to get a Daytona single engine but one that the owner had broken too many drivetrain parts to want to get running again. A few of these around but I wish there where more.
I could keep building different motor packages and write it off. R&D can get expensive you know. :winker: |

Apache! Then again you said NEW and apache has not laid glass yet that anyone knows of.
Regardless I chose fountain although wifey wants a sonic.
I see cig is winning this so far but hell I'd rather be out in front of the cigs anyway so I choose ye old fountain.
Great bang for the buck, fastest out there and I would paint it myself so I would order it blanked out white.
And Reggie still has some arches stuffed back in his shop in NC so Id opt for a 42 twin step staggered 575 sci intercooled executioner on an aluminum myco with a drive guard all white!
Thats every bit of a 90 MPH boat and thats all I need!
Oh and I would trash the dash, mount the throttles on the RIGHT side of the boat where they belong in a pod.

Guess I will have to stick with Baja :) |

Well since I am at the Powerquest limit I will look hard at Cig. If PQ would build a bigger boat I would look very hard at it. I am a Very happy PQ owner, I've had 3 of them.
WHERE WAS POWERQUEST ON THAT LIST it is a better boat then a couple of the other on there.
Great boat but under rated :( |

If I could afford it?......I have been looking at Marine Tech. Killer cat boat.
Also Skater.
I like the Scream and Fly video of the 155mph GPS verified 32 Skater with twin 950 Sterling motors.
The cats are just soooo much faster and smoother in light chop. |

Pantera does not make a 38 at least not yet.
Only the 35-36 so far, saw one up close last weekend, not too bad, Steps in the hull look like a 4x4 piece of lumber was laid in the mold and just glassed over though.
Just a very strange square shape to a step, never seen anything like that before. |

Another old thread revisited!
How the passage of time and a little research can change our opinions.
Post #3, back in July of 2004, I said my next boat would be a Sonic 31SS.
Well, three years later, I bought a new Formula 33SS!
I should have taken the comments of post #2 more seriously! Everything said in that post is 100% true about Formula! |
|
|
| marineman227 |
Another post from a very old topic but somebody has kept it alive with voting and it's kind of cool reading through it and seeing that probably 50% of the people that posted what they wanted next now have exactly what they posted they wanted.
I voted formula I have nothing now and won't until I graduate school most likely but I like the older formulas like late 80's or early 90's more than the newer ones. When I actually start shopping I'll be looking for something fast and loud with a usable cuddy. With that in mind a formula or baja boss will be my top picks. I don't need anything too fast and not too big probably 35 would be the absolute biggest I'd go because of the size of lake I am near. a 35 would be enough to work on lake michigan if I make the trek but it is also small enough to work on the lake that's right by me if I go that route.
Wow this turned into a long post in a dead thread... summary I voted formula but will be boatless for a year or two yet |
|
|
| El Guapo |
| I need a open bow because I have 2 kids, so it will have to be a Baja, Reinel, Momba, Ski Nautique, or a Tige'. But I don't see myself selling my Scarab 22 any time soon. |
