Couldn't have said it better myself!
Oh this is a racers section....uh oh...I am not a racer anymore so I wonder if I will get kicked off....no I will not because Speedwake is cool. Funny thing is the email I got from the child hiding behind the OSO Mod title saying I have never done anything for Offshore racing so I am being kicked off OSO Racers Milling Section! Yet most who post there do not or ever have raced, wrote rules and brought in new classes, teched or worked on a team. |

Speak for yourself. I am schizophrenically challenged. Retarted is my other Sump.
Meanwhile back to boat racing. Let's see some predictions for 2006.
Reliable will finally get a championship.
Fountain and Outerlimits will finally square off.
More teams will be running both APBA and OSS.
There will be one or two more SV's running.
There will be one or two less SVL's & F1's running.
APBA & OSS will both still schedule their worlds for the same week. |

I read that as Factory Lavey craft pulling out after such a dis appointing season .
I hope not . The hard ware was Stellar . If the right crews were in the F-1 & SVL you would be the next contender  |

| Having participated for the past few years and watching what makes a winning boat season after season, I would think the Laveycraft 2750 design will continue to run #2 or #3 against the Activator in F1 and the Extreme in SVL. The Activator is a very narrow boat and rides well on it's tail. There is not a lot of lift and drop in the Activator hull and it rarely chine walks. It takes a set reducing the amount of correction needed to keep the boat running straight. This gives the boat a great speed advantage and allows it to turn well. The Extreme is much the same except most the bottom wetted surface is about 5 feet forward of the transom which really reduces drag. The Extreme's extra length is a plus in rough water making it a good all around boat. From talking with Gary, the Extreme requires a skilled driver to keep the boat running its fastest. 2006 will be an interesting season. Maybe there will be less predictable podium finishes. |

You not kidding there . The Extreme you have to start really driving at about 84 thru 91 then it settles in again . You almost never see that boat chine walk . On the other hand look at TYPHOON's extreme, it walk's all over the place . So driving one is an art to be sure .
Does the width of the lavey have any thing to do with why it ran so out of shape on the race course? It just never seemed to settle in any where. Beautifull boat tho . The new crew has a big job ahead of them . I hope they get it all sorted out.
Thanx Jim as a seasoned racer I always value youre judgement . :) |

When Eddie designed that boat his mindset was into creating lift. The deep vee has some serious lifting strakes which raises the boat up creating less drag and more speed, but, also provides less stable running surface.
Think of a Tab. If you have a 4 foot wide tab in the water with 1/2 inch of the trailing edge actually touching or a 8" wide tab with 3" in the water, which would be more stable? Both theoretically create the same drag. The 4 foot wide would be more stable. Same with a boat.
If the boat is constantly rocking back and forth (chine walking) you:
1) are creating more drag as more wetted surface hits or scuffs the water
2.) constantly moving the steering to compensate causing even more drag and less speed.
This was one reason manufactures started using pad bottoms. Its all compromise. |
