F1 HP 500 Post from the other site               >>> CLICK HERE FOR THE ORIGINAL THREAD <<<
Flashwave
Interesting to see some support for the old F1 class. Frank knows there are a few HP-500/525 F1 type boats that can still race. Unfortunately the class still faces all the problems that drove the boats away. Multiple engines, lack of interest, lack of funds, the BS and changing engines again. It never made any sense change to a 496 in a used F1 boat. A 496 in a new boat makes good sense. I haven't seen a ground swell of factory support nor pleasure boat owners with 496's come out and race F1.

The guys who were still racing at the end had converted over to 525's, HP-3's or 500 conversions. I'm not sure how many are left. The activator is a 496. Flashwave has the pod removed and is being converted to pleasure. Velocity ran a 496. Lavey went to a 496. Typhoon was running their 525 engine in a SVL. The White Typhoon has to be a tired HP-500 as it was never rebuilt. Screaming Eagle is still setup for F1 although it only has an HP-500. Not sure what happened to PROPCO.

Seems like time has passed and the 1999 - 2004 F1 guys have moved on after having some of the best racing we could ever hope for.

Hi Frank, how many guys that raced F1 or even F2 are still racing in any class today? Seems to me that P-Class has really taken over. As a fan I loved to see what boat ran good or won every other weekend in F1 and F2. As a APBA Tech Inspector in 2000-2001 the F1 and F2 teams were the best and most fun to work with. I miss the racing too!

see ya, Mike

Hi Mike,

Actually I posted this over here for a few racers that realy want to discuss racing. You might want to send Frank a note through OSO.

If you follow the post, it's interesting to see whos coming out of the woodwork. Frank may be able to get 4 or 5 old F1 boats out running. That would be cool. There's some good equipment being offerred up and some worn out stuff.

This will be a fun thread to follow over the next couple of months.
Fever Mike
Sorry, for some reason I have been banned from the racers milling section on OSO. I can't even see it nor can I post even in the general section even though my paid for Platinum membership is not up for another 3 months. Do not know what I ever said wrong over there but Shuble hates me.

Mike,

A personal observation is your probably better off. As for not being able to read the posts, that sounds like a technical glitch. Anyone should be able to read the posts. Let me bring you up to date.

I know where there's a 2002 Formula 29 Fastech for sale...supposedly built as an F1 boat by Formula...the ad claims it's still new and never been in the water. I've talked with the dealer but haven't looked at the boat.

Frank...would it behoove me to go look at it?

Re: F1 HP 500 Boats
Please email me or call me for more information. Don't really want to through it out into a public forum right now, till we have all the details worked out. Also see if teams are truly interested in coming back out to race. Change isnt going to happen without support of equipment owers.

Frank,

It does...the ad says Mercury 500 EFI. The dealer told me they had the boat built by Formula for F1 for a guy after he put down a deposit...he later backed out. I don't think they've been able to sell it since it's got the race cockpit (2 person only...can't take the kids with ya).

I think it's got a Bravo 1 XR. It does have Lathem Steering, Gaffrig Guages, Race Comm...it reminds me of Herbott's boat. I think all you'd need to race it would be helmets and jackets...they're asking around $65K, but the dealer told me they could let it go for less.

I saw that boat too on boat trader. Great price , but not competitive for F-1. with or without the 500efi.

My advice to anyone who wants to get into the class cheap. Talk to Randy at Typhoon Racing. His White F-1 is a proven competitor.

HEY BRUCE I think the 292 fast tec with a 500efi could have done really well in some of this seasons SBI races ,by the way I heard you guys were gettin it done in the rough till mechs got you? OLD YELLOR is still FOR SALE not cheap but a proven winner!!!

Re: F1 HP 500 Boats
The Fastec may be a good rough water boat, but still cant compete against the Activator.

Yes, our SVL was running Awesome in Day 1. I think we would have won that race, if we didn't have electrical problems. But hey...thats racing. a 25 cent piece of wire took us out of the game.

Jim,

Do me a favor and give Frank a buzz. You were one of the ones that made F1 what it once was, right now he is just trying to get everyone's opinion and put an appealing package together to build the class back up. Right now I believe there are 4 boats commited/registered with TKO being the question mark(if it sells or not) those teams are: Extreme, Lavey, VR1, and Venom.

Your knowledge would be an incredible help to him and any insight from you would be appreciated. I just wish there was something we could do to get you to bring Flashwave out of retirement, it was a pleasure to watch you guys.

Thanks

Hi Trent,

Flashwave really is done. The boat is stripped. We're putting all new wiring in it and rigging it for pleasure. Somebody will have an 84 MPH boat with a brand new interior running Herrings for a real cheap price.

I really enjoyed running F1. The draw was a relatively low price and everyone running the same engine. This needs to be the foundation of at least a 3 year plan to bring F1 back. The number one and two reasons racers left F1 were engine changes and lack of funds.

The racers spoke last year and agreed on a 496 HO package. It is a disaster to allow any other engine in the class for 3 years. What manufacturer wants to put an Innovation engine in? None! So why should they support the class? How many potential racers want to spend money racing knowing that mid-season another more completive engine package could be allowed? The fastest way to loose racers is for them to be uncompetitive. The joy goes away fast.

I can promise you that if a detuned HP-500 is allowed, they will dominate the class. The current F1 guys should call Mercury (not Mercury Racing) and request their help. You might be amazed at how the support will grow over time if they know your committed for 3 years to the 496 HO. Anyway if Mercury won't help directly, call one of the other major distributors who move a good quantity of 496 HO's. The ability to withstand the harsh conditions of Offshore racing is a huge marketing coupe for any company selling engine packages and boat parts.

Jim
T-Bone 00
Jim,

Just to give you a little update. The votes by the teams came in and the 496 is history. The legal motors for this year are: Merc HP 500(stock, not detuned), Innovation 500, and the Tyler Crocket 500. I spoke to JC personally and he and the board of governors gave the vote the thumbs up. Now if I could just get my hands on a 500 EFI

Take care and best of luck to you outside the race circuit

Trent
Flashwave
Glad you guys decided on one engine package. Good luck in 2006.

Jim
