29 Fever Power Options               >>> CLICK HERE FOR THE ORIGINAL THREAD <<<

I'm in the Market for a new boat around 30 feet so it'll fit in my 32 foot indoor garage :D . Price isn't an option. I was thinking of an Ilmore 625 with speedmaster drives, but I'm not sure about the sound of the motor. If it's gonna sound like the viper does, i don't want that in a boat. Possibly a HP525 EFI with either a Whipple, or a pro-charger m-5..... I'd probably go with the centrifugal blower so it fits under the hatch. What do you guys think?

Thanks.
gilla
Considered the Sterling EFI engine or a Teague in the 700 hp range. Much better and more reliable than the others . Not sure the 29 is long enough for a v-10 in the engine bay.
The 600 Merc is also an option.

The 525 should get you 78 mph, the 600 84-86 and the Sterling or Teague over 90. Just a guess based on my 575 29.
bellofello
yeah I was thinking about the length factor of the Ilmore, what does your 29 run with the 575?
gilla
Great engine but I was dissapointed in the power-or I guess the speed. 79 mph-the last 5 mph were slow and really had to get loose. I expectd a solid and easy to get to 80. Could have just been that hull-they are all a little different. My 2005 38 with 525's is 85 mph loaded and 91 light and in good conditions. And is on rails. It might be a little faster hull than the average. If you just want a little rocket, I know of a 32 with 650's and pulls hard to over 100. Uh-oh-I forgot about the garage deal.

The 29 on a trailer might not fit-but a swing away tounge will be necessary for sure

no no trailer for sure, I'm in the proses of making a cradle that runs on a track into the water, powered by an electric winch. my lot is perfect for it too, its like a 10ish degree angle down to the water.

I love the 29 Fountain...I used to own one! Anyway, I'd suggest the new 600 by Merc because in boating reliability mean more to me than anything...I want to go boating every weekend. A stock 525 will push you right up to 78-80mph and that is pretty fast in a 29. You will be riding on just the pad...very little boat in the water at all. The 29 really lift's up on this pad starting at about 60mph....have fun and be safe!

I voted 525Efi with Whipple.
Very low installed height - should be no higher than stock sett-up. I believe it comes on it's own intake manifold.

thats what i like about em, (well nothing contests centrifugal or turbos for clearance height lol) but with the whipple the motor's longevity might suffer a bit becase your on the boost all the time at any throttle position.
cfm
I think they (Whipple) all have a bypass valve in them, not like you'd be doing much 'cruising' in a single engine bigger boat anyway.

Here's my choice ;)

You should put one Merc 600 sc in it... Those 29' are not even made with Twins anymore, To much weight looks like there Sinking for a 29'!!

They're made with twin small blocks... they were too fast with the big blocks for the average boater....

So what you're saying is a 525 is 1mph slower then a 575 in the 29? and a 600 is 5-6mph faster then a 575 in a 29?
gilla
I think the 525 would be about as fast as a stock 575. This is based on my 29 with the 575. Now-the potential to up the 575 with a smaller pulley is there-but I think the 575 is overated and the 525 is closer to 540 hp. So, not much difference in mph-IMO
cfm
It has been said the 525 is closer to 560hp or so at a more ideal rpm. Remember, it's got better heads and a chunk more cam than the 500EFI. :D

The 575SC will have more low end torque then the 525. I would believe some boats will respond to the SC engine better ie: heavy and/or less effecient hull.

Scary.....boy does it seem like it!

My 04 29 fever has a 525 in it. Its also has a its box which seemed to help some. It ran 78 to 80 every day just depend on the wifes mood. The best it ever ran was 83 but that was real light. So light I floated it on the trailer because it ran out of gas half way on the trailer. The boat was a hand full to drive and would hate to run one much over 83. We sold it due to the cabin room and the squirlyness of the boat scared the hell out of the wife.

25 pitch 3 blade stock .27 pitch 3 blade now 25 pitch @ 5,200 should go 73-78 mph are you hitting rev limiters I whould think so @5,400 RPM cup the 25's or try 27's good luck

Well i found out where my lost speed is. I had a broken intake valve on the port side motor. The motor is out right now and being gone through. hopefully i can duplicate your numbers.

did you have too much spring pressure or not enough? my motors have the stock 454 mag cams. I also have had the heads ported and i have roller rockers so i should be running similar speeds when i run it this weekend.

Just thinking "Outside the Box" with what has been posted.....
has anyone used Chief Engines?
http://www.chiefengines.com/

I did some business with them and was VERY pleased.

Good customer relations.

I have heard mixed reviews on TEAGUE and yet you still recommend and go back to them?
