outdrive oil...??????               >>> CLICK HERE FOR THE ORIGINAL THREAD <<<

I changed the outdrive oil in my boat. I have a 1991 27' Fountain with a single 502 mag and bravo 1 drive.

I drained it for over 5 hours to make sure it all came out then I re-filled it with just over 2 quarts. When I got to the lake to put it in, and I went to start it the buzzer was going off like crazy. So I opened the hatch and found what looks like a remote reservoir for drive oil..????? It was extremely low so I filled it up and the buzzer went off. My question is was I suppossed to somehow drain the reservoir..? how much does it hold.? Sorry for the dumb question but I have never seen such a thing on a boat before.

Thanks
Anthony

The resevoir will drain down when you drain the drive. es, after you fill the drive, from the bottom up to the top hole, then you have to fill the remote resevoir as well. Fill it about half full to leave room for expansion!

Draining:
Remove drive bottle cap then remove drain plug behind prop.

When you think all is out remove sight plug top side of drive. Some more may come out since more air can get thru.

I remove/clean drive bottle after system has fully drained.

Filling:
Take out sight plug top side of drive.

Fill from bottom to when it starts to leak out this site plug.

Install plug and keep filling until just below or at fill line on drive bottle.
