How big is your tow vehicle?
laster
3/4 ton Dodge Cummins, plenty big enough to tow my 5000# boat/trailer. Of course I may have to upgrade when I get my next boat . . . :D
obnoxus
I still cant vote Jeff !!!!!!!!!!

Anyway Silverado 3/4 ton, 4X4, 6.0 L, 3:73 rear end

At least until GM puts a Duramax in a 3/4 Suburban !!!!!!!!!!!!
jb

You should fill thebed with sand, then hook it up and take the pic:) Talk about overkill on a tow vehicle. BTW, sweet ride...of course, I may be biased:)
Glassman
2000 Chevy Tahoe 5.3, rated to tow 7,800 pounds. Although its pulled my 8,100+ pound 38 foot camper with no problems. I'm with OB though, I'd like a Duramax Suburban or Tahoe.
McGilla911
Used to be this:

now it's this:
hanginaround
Why the downgrade?
95 F350 crew cab srw, stump puller, or anything it wants to tow:gunner: :gunner: :gunner:
Aint 410s great:laugher: :laugher:
hanginaround
Oh, I forgot to say the wife drives a 99 2500 Burban, 454, 410s, we tow with that if the Stroker is dirty:gunner: :gunner:
niuhi
One ton for me and my little boat. :D No trouble going over the passes.

My old tow vehicle..
1996 centurian F350 with a gas Mizer 460 fuel injected gas motor......yeeee haaaaaw, leather buckets, two cup holders that the nephews never could get a cup into. Towed a 29 scarab at the time. Two tanks so you could get to the next gas station!

Obnoxus,
What kind of fuel economy do you get with that setup?
Towing?
Empty?

I have a 1995 GMC 1500 Z-71 that has almost 230,000 miles on it, most from dragging the Active Thunder all over the nation and Canada.
I guess sooner or later I'm gonna have to think about getting a new truck. But then I realize the thing gets right at 19mpg empty and still runs great. Then I ask myself, "what would I buy"?
Red Stripe
Here's mine (with my old tow rig in the background)
thumper038
McGilla I have seen the old tow rig running around town, hard to hide in a dually. When you own one you look for them, cool looking rig, mines a chevy all black.Maybe you have seen it towing thumper all black 38 scarab?

It gets 15.5 MPG on the highway nontowing at 75 MPH,,, towing the 272 it still gets 12 MPG at 75 MPH !!!

Running around town it gets less then 10 MPH,, but I have a lead foot to !!!!!!!!
105mph_38_2003
Here is the F-650 I just sold. Will get the pics of the F-250 tomorrow...I'm waiting for the new Dodge 305hp Cummins with auto to come out. I originally wanted a Quad Cab 4x4 Dually, but might just get a 2500 Quad cab 4x4 if I drive it every day. I heard that dually's are a pain if you use it as a daily driver....
McGilla911
105,

That's the reason I got rid of the dually I had. I didn't need it to tow anything I have right now and after two years of trying to park it I got fed up with it. keep in mind mine was a ford crew cab and they are not known for having the best turning radius in the world but I'm not sure if anything that long will turn into a parking space on the first try. I must say that the turn radius of the Yukon XL is unbelievably tight there are still times that I am surprised it cleared with out having to back up a little bit mostly in u-turn siuations.
105mph_38_2003
I drive a 2002 burb alot and it pretty easy to drive considering the size. My main concern is the flares getting hit from people not looking out for them. In the 650 it was pretty hard to miss and people steered clea, plus it was only a weekend warrior. I am trying to liquidate everything I have down and cut down on all these bills...I am happiest with a 35' or smaller boat. Considering an AT 32' or 37' for my next toy. But first I have to sell my Z-28, Jetski, and the Fountain. PLus a ton of other worthless junk i have amassed....
26scarab
2001.5 Dodge Ram 2500/Cummins Quad cab 4x4 Sport (red) , it's got an Edge EZ , straight thru muffler and makes supposedly around 305hp and 620 ft/lbs (with the upgrades) it also pulls an enclosed snowmobile trailer and is a daily driver.
I normally get 17mpg combined and 13 towing. I do drive pretty fast usually around 80-85. I have had the sled trailer in the triple digits though !!
That REALLY kills the mileage.
Stu,
that old Dodge was awesome, I can see why your missing it !
McGilla911
The only problem I had with the fenders was when the guy at the tint shop was pulling it in the garage he was too stupid to realize the fenders were there and fudded up the drivers side. But even being a little 350 people usually steered clear of it. On the fords the hips don't stick out any further than the mirrors so it's not as bad as some think.

2002 Avalanche Z71 tows the 27 Fever just fine!

Just picked up a 2003 Silverado 1500, 5300, extended cab to pull the 32 Sunsation. The red on the truck matches the stripe on the boat nearly perfect.

1978 Chevy K5 owned since new! The inteior, paint etc... is original. Those nice shiny rims were put on it in 1978. The original full time 4 wheel drive was trashed quickly and a Dana front axle with lockable hubs and a New Process Transfer case was installed. The original 350 was beefed up (loud and obnoxious ie cherry bomb mufflers) and ran for 110,000 miles and then was replaced with a Chevy performance crate motor which has been extensivly modified. Edelbrock performer intake and Carb, K&N Filter, Cam and head work, Thorley Tri Y exhaust Manifolds, Flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers (still loud!), Msd Ignition etc....It now has a Skyjacker 4" Softride suspension under it which is a far better ride than the first lift which was 3/4 ton rear springs from a chevy truck modified and installed on the front of the Blazer which gave it the name "Leaping Lena". I have done all the work myself, it is better than paying someone else and then redoing it to my specs!

Tows great.
dominator scott
2001 Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 with a V-10. Mileage sucks but she tows great.
Underdog88
I love my Dodge Dually Turbo Diesel
Tows way better than my ol 1/2 ton did AND gets twice the milage loaded. I'm getting close to 20mpg!

I drive it daily with no problems. I was worried about that. I do live in a smaller town which makes a difference. I had it in downtown Columbus a few weeks ago and it sucked for that. Plus I got a freeking parking ticket!

Damn thats a pretty boat Flim!!!!
sunsation98
I have never towed with a lift on a vehicle.....

how does that handle compared to stock set ups???

Seems like it may be a bit unstable????

none the less looks cool!
flimflam
Seems to be stiffer than the stock set up. With a full tank of fuel on the truck it sags, (44 gallons of diesel) but the side to side and tire flex is little. In AZ we have long uphill grades, that sucks the life out of it.
sunsation98
cool set up none the less!
BajaIceBreaker
01' GMC 2500HD, 4X4, 8.1L w/ Allison 5 speed automatic and 4.10:1 gears.

Can pull ANYTHING!!!!!

2005 2500 Duramax Diesel Chevrolet - and its a company truck - even better..... trade it in every 6 years... last one was a 1=ton Dully GMC -
