What will 2007 Offshore racing look like.               >>> CLICK HERE FOR THE ORIGINAL THREAD <<<
Flashwave
2006 saw a resurgence of racers, old and new to SBI, OPA and OSS. As usual the racers who fell out have been replaced by new blood. Some old equipment hit the water as some of the fun factor returned. The OSO rhetoric subsided over the the 2005 season although there was some good bashing for all to enjoy.

So all you prognosticators, what will 2007 Offshore racing look like? Which organization will grow the most. Who are you rooting for to win the National Championship in any class? Let's have it boy and girls.

J
Wardey
Hey Jim, All I can say is that Team Extreme F1-1 is alive and ready for the 2007 season !!!! Dave
Wardey
Is'nt it time we see the Flashwave Team back out in F1 ???? I see Glen gloating around the pits every now and then. Love to see you guy's back out there. Dave :D

Why can't some or all of the sanctioning bodies have open ocean racing again?

They already have their beach courses set up, it would be so easy to just put out one more checkpoint boat 30 miles straight out in the ocean.

...let one class of people who like that big wave stuff go out and around the boat......now for the return, you would see no land and would have to navigate to get home.

The beach races could be going on in the meantime. I don't say stop one for the other....do both!!

Once the racers had a taste of open ocean racing......they would love it.

More photos on our site for old race boats.
www.historicraceboats.com

This is a real photo...not photoshop.

It is a 38 foot Bertram caught on the way back down after a jump off a Key West wave.

You can see it is coming down by the exhaust vapors trailing up to where the boat was before.

sweet photo , and it sounds good to me let them go :D

We did the Long Beach race to Catalina Island and back,
it was fun. I gotta tell you though, nothing gets your blood pumping like turning at 140mph

Exactly.......that is why I say do both!
RCHEVELLE71
How about a little Pantera on the roster :D

HORBA, when I was involved with APBA back around 2000 there was talk about a longer offshore race like you mentioned. The problem was event insurance and safety boats and helocopters. I believe these facts and that people/racers talk about races like this but nobody really wants to step up and really put themselves or there boat through it. How many times on all these performance boat websites does someone come up with a long offshore race and it falls apart...seems like every year.

All you need are the same helicopters that cover the up and down the beach races.

Put one checkpoint boat 30 or 40 miles out and everyone turns there. Once everyone has passed...... all the copters need to do, is watch the last boats coming in.

Insurance is something that someone will step up and write when it is time.

All that is really lacking is the experience of the racers...... knowing how much fun these kind of races are, and they will want them more and more.

that may be closer to fruition than you think.

Maybe Scott B will chime in with some news ,he was just in dubai ,and may have some insight on whats going on over there.
Ben
If the sponsorship is in place, the event will happen.

What Mike Lloyd, the Event Director would also like to see is some American teams joining in the fun. My understanding however is that unfortunately, there has been little interest on this side of the pond.
NUT JOB
I wish I could say for sure, But I believe attempts to go over seas are being worked on.I know its not easy .

I spoke in length with the teams from norway who came to Key West. They put a years effort into getting here.
I watched their boats unload from giant overseas semi crates over on stock island .

They loved being here , and basically said to me before they left ,..........OK .Your'e Turn ! :D

If I can possibly help bring the show over ,you can bet I would . :D
NUT JOB
Ben I got youre note. Thanx. I tried youre new site ( www.proprider .com )but it didnt come up.

With Steve curtis heading up the round britain you do at least have a contact from over here. I'm sure he has put a bug in Tom's ear. He may be able to help move things forward internationaly as well. ( Maybe Tom can move all the equipment by adding to Reliable -Carriers trucking a Reliable Carriers Shipping Co. LOL )

Keep us up to date on the plans . POO !!!
Ben
Should be http://www.proprider.com
NUT JOB
OK I'm in now ! I went on as POO !!!. That is a nickname I aquired thru my Offshore endeavers. :)

I think it came from all the ladies who think I'm a Teddy Bear ! :D

I cant post yet . Does it take a couple days ?

See if we can get Curtis to post on there. I used to talk with a bunch of guys over there a couple years ago .
I'd have to look up to see if Curtis was one.
Now that he hangs around with Abrams he 's probly stuck up :laugher:
reliable1
I dont think Curtis knows how to log on!!!
Ben
Nut Job, you should have been sent an e-mail with activation instructions and should be able to post immediately.

I guess Steve could log on but as you know he is kept rather busy reliable1. We do worry now that he has his MBE though !

Look who came out a' the woodwork ! :D

I'd love to go over and watch you smack down class1 .
only problem is youd have to get another throttleman as Curtis would be run out of town for not running with his hometown team.

SO what does everyone think about 2007 seems like some new things happening
Flashwave
There is a cycle offshore goes through. I haven't figured how many years it is yet, but I imagine it will end up like it was 8 years ago and and the cycle will start all over again.

I can say the best years are when most teams race under one organization. When that happens, Offshore racing is at its very best. Then it's time to race again.
NUT JOB
Whats up Jim ? !!! :D

I agree . As darth Vader once said " Today we've seen the end of Kenobie ,Tommorrow The end of the Rebellion " LOL
It appears to have already begun , leaving an opening for Positive leadership to take a front seat .
Hope they do. :)
shane b
Well so far it is going to be an interesting year :D

Should be a fun year.

damn westcoasters :D :D

see ya there, if I get over to dads this year.
NUT JOB
I'm just glad to see that the largest % of teams are putting aside the negative agendas of only a few,and taking positive action toward some type of unity.
I'm still a little confused as to who is racing where & when tho .
Hopefully after biloxi we will get a glimpse into the future of exactly where OSS fits into this years activities.
.
NUT JOB
( Negative post , no need for me to drag it over here ,sorry ) :)

Who's next ???

Just forget the three letters attached to racing, go as a spectator, and help out whoever ya can, and have a good time, I gave up caring about those 3 little letters a long time ago.
NUT JOB
Youre right rick .

Every once in a while I allow myself to get side tracked by people I dont even care for .

It 's nice to have freinds to remind me that I'll have a ball at my race's any way . Thanx :D
Throttle Up
There indeed lies the challange boys. It can be very hard to not become emotional about something someone does or says. We all are very passionate about Offshore...you know we don't do it for the money. We all form friendships along the way and are loyal as the day is long! So, if we keep this in mind we will better understand our surroundings and those in it!

Oh yea and remember to breath!

Ya gonna make st. Cloud???

if not we'll see ya at the next one.

OH yeah, there are 3 letters I DO care about.........AMF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scotty and John have been great to me, regardless of which organization they are with, last year with OSS, I coulda flew around the world with them, it was my choice not to, and stay home and take care of things here.

When does John NOT have a party???????

His whole life is one big party :D

I fell in love with the St. cloud race 3 years ago, it was the first one I attended there, Scotty told me I would have a blast, and I did, got to meet some of the racers, and later that year we Had Scottys 24 back in the mix, the rest is history :D

Ben I think if we could get some kind of simplified description of what kind of boats would be eligible.

By that I mean, my memories of the CTC was that you had cruiser classes and diesel classes and then the open class 1 types.

Are there many classes .....what kind of logistic help is available to teams coming over. Where would the boats be shipped to begin...etc. etc.

Any clarification would help.
Ben

Ben....yes, thank you, we are working on coming over with something for the Round Britain Race.

Also there is something being raised on the near horizon re a real open water ocean race on this side of the pond.

It will be a ...... Bring Whatever You Have.....and let's see what it will do kind of race, with a major payoff to the winner.

It will be interesting to see how many of the so called offshore boats of today can really race offshore.

The racers themselves will have no problem....they will adapt and love it....it is the equipment that will be the concern.
NUT JOB
Any one going to the miami race next weekend ?

The newer O.S . " Top Shelf " boats that are running today, ( most )Wouldnt last an hour out past the wall here in KW .
Dry Sump
We love the Wall. Head out, turn left and Oh $hit. Now your racing offshore. I''ve seen more boats 15 - 30 ft out of the water outside the Wall than anywhere else we race. Yep, it tears up the equipment and your body real fast.
shane b
So what is happening to boat racing there were only 38 boats or so at 2 races?
