Full or Empty?               >>> CLICK HERE FOR THE ORIGINAL THREAD <<<

With the new fuel out there who is topping off their fuel tanks and who is running them dry when they winterize? And why? I just got my boat back tonight with the new power and I was told to "fill 'er up". I just was curious what everyone else is doing.

My tank is already full and I'm done for the season. I will just put stabilizer in it and hope for the best.
Ryan00TJ
Empty with proper amount of Stabil or FP60 for what is left in the tank. Why? B/C i've done it this way since the boat was new and it's still on the same 1984 gas tank with no problems.

no worries, just figured your answer might be there....seems most feel empty is good, then another half say full.......
Ikes brother
Hey Rob, Wanna go out tomorrow and help me empty the tank in the AT? :D
Horse power
It would be a good cool day for speed runs.
Ikes brother
And its my last weekend before.....winterization!!! :(
SOX
John, Thanks for the offer but as usual family plans will get in the way of my own personal gratification :D . I will take the
Ebb out on Sunday for a test run. If you have the time would you like to join me? I picked up the boat and ran it on the muffs. She sounds great so I can't wait to see how it runs. Victor said to keep it under 3500rpms for a while while I break in the new engine. Then all I have to do is clean it winterize it and sell it.

I go with the full tank with ez store/ez start and startron in the tank.

If you have the 10% ethanol in your area,,, thats not the best way. 100% gas,,,,and your perfect !!!!!!

Per the majority recommendation I am storing it empty. I had about a 1/2 tank left from a couple weeks ago and I have put it in the truck already. Pretty easy to do when your running electric fuel pumps. Disconnect the line, hook up a long fuel line that goes to the truck fuel fill and turn on the pump.

yup me to Scott! I am not going to risk running old gas in my blower motor. I will take the chance of a little condensation over running bad gas through my motor. My builder says fill it and dump it in the spring  um I would rather not throw $300 bucks away so empty it is! :confused1

Fill it up and dump it. Should of told him to pony up the $$$$ to that while he was at it. Besides isn't the fuel water seperator supposed to catch any water in the gas? I figure come spring I will throw new fuel in it and run it on the hose for a while, then change out the seperators. :winker:
UP_ROKTOY
fill it up and put it in your truck in the spring, I have said it before I will say it again, your car will run on it, your boat is not worth ruining with **** fuel.

i read the other thread, too. there's alot of opinions on there and im sure alot of them are educated opinions.

i also talked to some of my personal speedwake friends and found a split decision.

from what i found on the other post...if the gas has ethanol - store empty. if it's pure gas - store full.

my girlfriend works at a oil company who provides fuel to trout's marina. it is pure gas w/valvetec additive. i called toledo beach marina twice and they said they have pure gas. a guy at west marine in toledo called a toledo marina and they said they use pure gas.

so, since i have had the boat there shouldn't have been any ethanol ran through it.

i added stabilizer for my 130 gallons and topped her off. i may consider draining to my truck in the spring but im leaving mine full for the winter.

so now its time to vote and see what the results are! :)
SOX
What about marina's that shut down for the winter and their gas sits in tanks all winter? Putting that gas in a boat I would think would be worse.

Also I was told the ethanol will separate out of the gas and causing a layer of water then alcohol then the gas on top that. Is that true? If so I think the only choice is to leave it empty.

Not Right
I'm storing mine empty, I made aoubt 2 passes too many today, had to get towed to the gas pump by a friend, :)
Mopower
Listened to a Merc mechanic last fall and left mine full (with stabilizer) and no problems at all. That's what I'm doing again his year :)

What Mopower said! :D

boat runs on 93 that = more of these $$$. Not to mention that if I ever put 93 in my poor old chevy she might have a heart attack and die ;)
SOX
Well I decided to go with e-10 stabil and startron and filled her up.
jeffgrice
I had always kept cars/boats full....until the one year when the tank overlowed due to heat.

Ask some people and they said to keep empty.

I stored it full last year with Starbrite EZ Store/EZ Start and I ran Startron when ever I put gas in. Always filled up after a day on the water and no problems. First day of the new season I ran the tank pretty close to empty and fille with fresh fuel.
