I just had my outdrive stolen and called the dealer to see what it would be to replace it. He is quoting me 11K to replace it.

Now I know boat parts are expensive but this seems way out of line.

I was hoping someone here could give me an idea of the cost to replace a Bravo 1 outdrive along with a Bravo 1 4 blade stainless prop.

The thieves just unbolted it and everything is still there except for the drive itself.

Thanks
Steve

Well, checked with another dealer and they are saying closer to 8K with labor and all. Not cheap but closer to what I was expecting. Of course all the locals will want to charge list for the drive which is about 7.5K.

I figure the insurance is going to nail me for having any kind of claim so might as well have someone else do the work.

i know www.dereberyperformancemarine.com is where you can purchase new drives at wholesale prices. i don't think that anyone in the country can touch what he has for sale. he treats you right on shipping also. just look at their web site. leon derebery is the owner and a good guy. i have purhcased a performance engine from him and was very pleased with what he sold me.

I bought a new Bravo drive from BAM last yr and paid $3890. This is brand new, not a rebuild. Only takes under 1/2 hr to install if you never did before, otherwise a few minutes. Only 6 Nuts hold it on, then 1 trim cylinder rod. How could dealers be charging $1000's more? Don't forget the needed nuts and rod if they took that too. BAM carries all the needed parts. I ordered my drive on Tue, picked up at airport on Wed.

The reason dealers are so high is because they are selling you the drive individually. The $3500-$3900 prices quated above are because all of these Merc parts business will buy a complete motor package, ie: motor, transom and trim assembly, and drive, then split them up. A package is cheaper than individual parts by a huge amount. My insurance co. paid for my new drive and prop, and then some extra for my own labor to install. It was a win win deal for both.

11k sounds about right for them to quote for an insurance claim. I hit something last year and just an upper half, prop and labor retailed at over 7k. See if you can get the ins co to pay you based on a written quote, then buy the drive and other parts you need and have someone install them. You sould be an easy 5k ahead.

Once you replace you stolen drive, Its a no brainer that you should buy a drive lock.
Many out there, I've got one that replaces one of the six bolts with a keyed nut. Same as a rim lock nut. I also put a prop lock on.

This has been an interesting experience. I have talked to three different shops and gotten very different prices for the same work.

First was 11K
Second was around 8K
Third was 6.3K

All new drives and the labor to install.

The funny thing is that I had a prop lock on it,, so who ever ends up with it better need a 4 blade 22 pitch prop.

Never thought about locking the outdrive, of course the new will have the lock on it before it leaves the shop.

Anyone know of an good indoor storage place in Columbus, OH?

Don't walk run away from those places and keep your hand in your pockets so they can't reach in.

Boatnut and the crew have the right idea buy it yourself and install it. If you think you can't do it GET a firm quote for installing one outdrive (1) and your prop (buy that also) anyone charging you more than $200 dollars are not in the boat business they are in the "let's screw the ignorant, and make a buck only once with this person" business.

Well without really shopping I know BAM Marine sells them for $3895.00. You might be able to find a better deal.

Which leaves you $7000.00 to buy a prop :D

Prop...Guesstimate $450.00
Boatnut is right. I gotta guy who gets them out of Floriday for $4000.00. He swears they are new. His number is 636-250-4187.

Good Luck!

Did you have the straight Bravo I Drive or did you have the Bravo I Performance Drive. There are jsut a few of the Bravo I Perf. drives left out there. I sell the Bravo I Drive at $3699.99 and the Performance drive is a bit pricier.

Prop.....NO Problem!
