My temp gauge normally reads about 160*-175* under "normal" operating conditions. I`ve noticed in the past few weekends that the temp starts creeping up if I run at 4000 rpm or more. It doesn`t take but a minute or two to start edging towards 200*. I installed a 140* thermostat this morning (had a 160*). Today at the lake it ran 175* most of the time until I ran it harder, then it crept just past 200* within a minute. When I hit wide open throttle, the gauge would literally jump to 210* within 30 seconds........If I held it at WOT for very long (2-3 minutes) the gauge would creep to 230* +
I am at a loss with this.
Here`s a few things for you to consider:
I replaced the sea pump impellar early this season. It has maybe 25 hours on it, no dry starts. I installed a water pump crossover a couple months ago, but didn`t notice this problem until recently.
My temp sending unit is mounted in the rear, starboard coolant passage of my Edelbrock intake. Should it be mounted in another location to get a more accurate reading?
Give me any suggestions.
Also, I`m not convinced that the engine is actually getting hot. When I check the engine while gauge is showing hot, the engine (hoses, manifolds, intake) doesn`t really feel much hotter than normal.
I seem to be getting plenty of water flow through tailpipes.
Faulty sending unit?
Obstruction in oil cooler?
??????????????????????
