Hi there,

I am a new guy, trying to decide on what my fisrt boat should be. I am not new to boating, but am new to Baja's. However, I know that a Baja is what i want. I really like the 25 Outlaw. Should I go new or used? I know new they are quiet a bit of $$$ and thats ok, but seems like a 2000, or so is quite a bit cheaper. So, I dont know wether to get a used and then upgrade in a few years or get a new one and keep it for a while (financing a while). You guys are the experts...please help. If there are any other boats you would recomend, please feel free!

thanks,

doug

25 ol

The 25ol is a great boat you cant go wrong with it. Handles rough water well and if pretty fast.I have a few friends that own them and lovem. I recommend weather you buy new or used to get either 502mag usually2001\2000 and older or 496Ho 2001 and newer. You will get the most out of these motors weather you keep them stock or decide to modify. Also much better on resale value. i at one time owned a 272\275 with a 496ho white windscreen great boat also in the same class as 25ol. :D

502's and 496 ho's are the way to go. Expect mid 60's performance. The 310 is a mid 50's boat and very difficult to sell.

Good luck!

My .02......

I agree w/ all that was stated above, get atleast the 502 or 496HO for resale alone! Speed is always a plus as well :D Not sure of your financial position, but if you are contemplating a newer boat '01 +, you may really want to look at a brand new boat. You can obtain a nice (interpreted as non-salt, low hours, perfect interior / exterior, w/ tandem trailer) 01+ around 50k. You can get a 04 w/ options any way you want for mid 60 and the financing is going to be better. If you are buying a payment, the new '04 may be a lower payment. I was quoted a 2004 25 outlaw w/ eagle steel trailer (brakes on both axles) cockpit carpet, monster guages, upgraded throttle, etc. (SST I believe) for $66k at the Cleveland boat show. They were also giving me substantially more than my boat lists at, so I think if you are buying w/ no trade you could get them down another 3 or 4 thousand.

Keep in mind though this price included the Baja incentives that may be running out very soon (you can check there site on that).

Overall the 25 is a Great boat. With a true 24* bottom, you get the ride of a bigger boat. Also, as I am sure you know the 25 is measured w/ out the swim step. The 272 & 275 include the molded platform, so you have a boat that is the same length, but rides a bit better due to the bottom. Because of the nice ride, it takes more ponies to maker her go though (not always a bad thing when it comes to insurance).

If you go used, you may want to check into Dallas boats 4 sale, he advertises here and knows his stuff about Baja's!!

Sorry for the long post!!
Matt

I got to agree with the board...if you're just getting into power boating, the 25 outlaw is the perfect starting place. It's a performance boat at an affordable price. I traded up last year to my 2001 25OL from a 2003 212 Islander. I needed the big block sound & power. Bought mine at Boattraderonline.com. Found a nice guy in Balt./Wash area that delivered the boat for me. It had the extended warranty and was in great shape. Eitherway do your homework before you buy.

what will you use your boat for?? will you overnight on it? will you be pulling any slides are ski's? what kind of water do you boat on? all important questions, the 25 outlaw is a great boat, a couple other boats for less money are the H2X and the 232, my fist boat was a H2X then sold it after having it for about 16 months and bought a 29 outlaw, if you can work on your boat find a good used one a year are two old, if you have extra money and want a new boat with a warranty and plan on keeping it for a while , well find a new one

I've got an '02 that just came in on trade. Price is $49,995 prior to advertising. It's loaded with 496HO.

Thanks, Love the boat, but got the itch for another few feet. :D

What is it with these things, my Dad was the same way when I was a kid. He never got any bigger than 25' and a single engine though. My Mom hated boating, scared to death of water deeper than the bath tub. :laugher: I'm lucky my wife loves it. She just doesn't want anything to do with the payment.

I'm hoping a 33 Outlaw will satisfy me for some time to come. My problem is I like the looks of the 30 better. Now I have to decide what to do. Chances are there won't be many used 30's around next spring. :(

How about a 342 or a wicked 38? I can take trades. Also, I'll forward some 33's if interested. I don't have any right this moment but I'm sure they'll be coming.
