What make/Model does everyone use, and how do you like it? I've been a long time fan and user of Nikon Film Cameras, but we are finally looking to get a Digital Camera, and thought I would solicit some opinions. Thanx all..

Hey Yamadog,
I still don't see any pics of your boat on the Yamaha thread in the "Other" forum! :D ;)

I just bought a 5 megapixel sony for my dad for Christmas. Sorry don't know the model #. I was extremely pleased with that purchase. Very clean pics. I have an older Sony and the new one blows the old one away!

Ive got a sony mavica that puts the pics straight to a small compact disk.....on my lowest setting which is still awesome to mee the CD holds over 1200 pics!! on the highest and best setting it holds like 32 pictures! And it can hold 90min of video clips ranging from 5seconds to something like a minute long.....i love it! Its only the megapixel...nothing special by todays standards but it does the job great! :D

We have a Canon Optura 20 Digital Camcorder.
Not only does it take movies but it also takes 1.33mp still shots and 30 second MPEG movies. You can take stills while shooting movies. Stills can be taken one at a time or continuous at 2 frames per second.
Camera has a 16x optical and 320x digital zoom.
This is just some of the features. Check it out at http://www.canondv.com/optura10_20/optura10_20_flash.html .

If you want a high end digital go with an SLR. I use a Canon 300D (Digital Rebel). Nikon also has a dSLR in the same price range now. And there are entire websites as to which people prefer, Canon vs. Nikon. Both take some amazing pictures but aren't really for the "point and shoot" fans. I've got an older Sony digital I use for boating action. Good luck...

I bought a Canon 10D 6.3 meg SLR type digital. By the time I bought a telephoto lens, wide angle zoom, and flash, and a couple of 512 meg cards, I spent around $3000, but one hell of a camera and the cost of film and developing no longer an issue it was worth it.

One of the hottest and most sought after right now is the Canon S1 IS with image stabilization. Canon has the edge if you're shooting from the boat because it will stabilize the image. Has a 10x optical zoom, and 3x digital to help zoom in on boats around you. Also suggest you buy the fast charge 2200mha niMH batteries and a 512k minimum flash card. If the batteries go dead, you can always plug in alkalines in a pinch.

I also liked the Kodak which had a larger LCD, but it didn't have the image stabilization. It also has proprietary battery you'll pay dearly for later on.

If you really want to research it, this site will make your head spin. http://www.dpreview.com

Don't get all caught up in megapixels. Anything over 3 you can blow up and print beautifully in large formats (i.e., 8x10's).
