Okay as some of you may know I have switched from 25P 3 blade Mirage to 26P 4 blade Bravo one's
These props have all but solved the blow out issue for me and my boat.
Problem is I was follwing a few boats yesterday and it seems when I get into some "dirty" water or close to someone elses boat where directly behind it is all airated, The boat wants to just dance and sort of turn by itself.
I move out of the turbulent water and similar occurances happen, once I jump the wake of the 50 foot sea ray that im following, it seems to smooth out but still once in a while gets squirley for no apparent reason.
Might just quickly jog to the right or to the left just while running 30-40 mph.
Is this a prop issue, steering issue or what?
You guys have this where the boat will just sort of turn by itself and no I have NO PLAY in any of the steering system, Tiller arms, have a tie bar up top from tiller arm to tiller arm and from back of drive to back of drive.
Maybe check the alignment of the drives for toe?

Shot in the dark Jay... but is there tides or current? Reason why I ask where I boat, on a river, at times, the current will push the boat around, almist feels like there would be about 4-6 inches of play in the steering. My first year on the river, it had me baffeled until somebody told me what it was. Only happens on certain part od the river where the current swirls. Just a thought, but I am sure the other guys answers or mire realistic then mine.

Shameless,
I've felt the same thing but mostly in no wake zone at low speed. You can also see the distubance in the surface of the water ;)

Mopower, I have not really felt that in the no wake zones. Normally it comes in above 35 mph and all the way up to WOT. Feels like you are driving a car on ice. You are right, you can see it, but I find myself looking far ahead for debris instead of currents. Plus, the first boat I played with on the Mississippi was a little 17 foot Checkmate with hull weight of 800 lbs. Man, would that thing get tossed around in the current at speed.

After this storm Ill check the toe on the drives and see what if anything is out of alignment there.
I know the inner and outer tie bars have adjustments so cant hurt to check those out and see.
I dont think this is current cause it happens at random.
Im miles away from any inlet or canals and boom it just feels like someone jerked the wheel pretty far and the boat just jerks to one side but the steering wheel does not move or does not move that far.
maybe im hitting manatees? (not a joke im being serious here, Is that what it may feel like to strike a sea cow?)

Hey J,

Could it be you are airating the hull? When I reach about 50 and going through trim, when the boat airs itself out, I get the same feeling you are describing. I can't remember the technicals that I was told, but I was told it had something to do with as you air the boat out, you reach a point where the drive realeases some of its drag, kind of like riding on a pocket of air. I know, I do not make sense, but it did when I was forst told about it, but that was years ago when I ran my little boat with pads. I though it was a thing with the pads with the boat riding up so high out if the water, then when I got my current boat, it did the same thing. If I am not aggressive on the trim, it does not do it. When it happens, it is like the wheel goes lose for a spit second and the boat will lean to the right for a split secon then all of a sudden it gets a burst of acceleration if I stay in it. The first time it happen with my wife in the boat, she thought I hit something.
