Daveboys,

I was watching you guys I assume testing at Shelbyville on a Thursday two weeks ago. We were floating in our 25 Sunsation. That pontoon boat is something to see. I snapped a couple pics of it running.

The Shoot out was a blast this year.
Ran in it for the very first time on Sunday. Very long waits in the staging area, but it was worth it.

The shootout website ( www.lakeshootout.com ) appears not to have been updated since LAST YEAR!!

Calan broke a rudder on his first pass just after the radar gun (which, as mentioned was WAY off on Saturday), Miss Bud ran for and won the Top Gun prize (personally glad it was the last year for them to pull that crap), Bacardi Siler hauled big time butt, as did the plethora of Skaters in attendance.

While floating in the staging area, I counted no less than 9 BIG Skaters waiting to run. It was nuts.
No Fountain kilo boat, no Outerlimits record boat.
Where you at shooters saturday night? There was a DCB there running twin nasty motors sounded bad azz !

Just curious, what is wrong with Bud coming with their boat. Is it Bud you have a problem with or the fact it is an Unlimited? I think since other "professional" boats are their, it is fair game. If Bud only ran 198, they were just playing around and did not want to embarrass the rest of the field. Dave has a way of doing that, he is a master at putting on a show. I got to know the Bud guys pretty well when i used to work on another Unlimited team, and although a bit cocky, they are a binch of talented people and deserve to run for the title. In my opinion. Don't take me wrong, I am not looking for a debate here, just curious...

Thanks
Bill

No problem Bill. In fact I have no problem with the Bud crew whatsoever! They are a very professional, personable team that takes pride in what they do. In fact I love watching the Miss Bud do her speed runs!

The problem I have is with them competing for the Top Gun honors. The history of this event is that some of the good 'ole boys started the whole "My boat is faster than yours!" stuff, and someone had the idea to use a radar gun to end all the BS. It kind of went from there. Today, there are around 150+ (I think, not official count) boats all trying to win their class, or be the "Top Gun" of the lake.
These are supposed to be boats that can actually start at the docks (!! Imagine that !!), dock themselves, idle out to the staging area and make the run BY THEMSELVES!!!
Obviously, a Hydro boat does not fit within the spirit of the competition. Since Powerboat mag came online with the cover of the December issue to the Top Gun winner, it has become as much about advertising as it has about the actual competition.
The Busch family and Budweiser have been a great asset to LOTO over the years, and I hope to see that continue (I think it will-in a big way, just not with the hydroplane team anymore ;) ), however, drag boats, hydroplanes, and any other boat that cannot run without assistance should not be allowed to run for Top Gun honors, in my opinion.

SummerObsession.

I must say I agrre with you, but I take it one step farther. I think the shootout should go back to the way it was and should not be open to any professional teams. But, I do understand the whole money and sponsorship deal and by telling Bacardi silver and Bud they can't run, the shootout would lose alot of the Bud money! I guess things can get too big...
Thanks for the reply!!

Bill
