getting blueing and yellowing off header pipes

my winter project is fixing up the two Honda SL70's I have sitting out in the shed. Both have yellowing and some blueing on the exhaust pipes.

are there any products that REALLY work on removing the blueing and yellowing and if not are there companies I could send them to for polishing?

SL70's? Cool!

I used to ride one of those when I was a kid.

Sorry, no idea on how to remove blue.

I was under that impression as well. Once the reaction has taken place to blue the pipes the damage is done. Really no way to reverse it -- just make it look a little better.

I am real interested in this.

We modified and rebuilt a Tucker snow groomer for our snowmobile trails.

I had a full dual stainless steel exhaust system made for this with SS Dynomax strait thru mufflers - with stacks of course - and there is some blue and a ton of yellow. This thing looked killer - now it is just dull.

Tell us how much work it takes to remove the discoloration. I have about 5 or so ft per side to clean up.

It's that time of year to get it ready!

Letting the engine run rich is the only way to prevent it but experienced people know that if the pipe is blued it is only because the engine is tuned properly. I have a Yamaha banshee four wheeler that is completely chrome or polished. I just realize that there is know way to stop the bluing. Once you realize that, you won't care as much. Don't sacrifice performance for cosmetics.

Not sure if it'll work for you, but I found that Barkeepers Friend will remove heat bluing from stainless steel.
This is the only product I found that really cleans stainless steel.
