well... I'm going to have to do some checking.

I raced Enduro karts when I was a teen and have not kept up with any of the new classes. My uncle had a Kart business but passed away about 10 years ago and his son sold all the Karts and spares.....

I may head to the track this w/e just to scope things out and see what's for sale there and get the lowdown on classes and see who's running in what classes.

When I raced bikes, Supertwins was a great place for older guys since most of the bikes were Ducati's and most young guys could not afford Ducati's. We'd get the occasional kid on a Honda Hawk, but we always spanked them real bad...

the local tracks are too short for Shifter Karts. Though I did do a few laps at Laguna Seca back in April of 1998 in a shifter kart a few days before a motorcycle race. It felt wierd being so close to the ground....

it was a blast - though they felt slow compared to my old race bike.

I hsve never raced karts, but the indoor tracks here were you can rent karts a very popluar! My step-sons race a couple times, they say it is a lot of fun!:D

They have kart racing here every weekend, but its on dirt. They have an outside and inside track, so they can keep it going all year.
I used to race karts in the 60's, we had 3 paved road courses in the area. They weren't anything like what they race now. We ran old West Bend engines on airplane fuel back then. I had some photos on a vintage kart site a couple years ago, will have to dig them out. :)

I don't know what go-karts cost anymore but there are a couple of low-cost car classes that are fun. Our terminal manager races in a 3/4 scale nascar replica w/mazda 4cyc sealed motor . Cars are made by allison. I think he is looking to move up now. New cars are 17000
he has 2 used ones that may sell to buy the next set up. Lots of rules to keep you from buying the race. They are faster - 75mph in the straights - but I feel they maybe safer as they sport complete cages and safety equip.

there are a number of carts for under $1,000. Tires last a dew weekend are about about $40 to $60 bucks.

engines aren't bad - typical price is about $400 to $600 and it will fit in the back of my pickup. I was thinking that Karen's son Zach might like to race it too!

Thats an old ploy that the Beacher is not going to buy.

"Honey, I got this so Zach and I can bond at the kart track."

Hope it works, but I think the Beacher is way ahead of you on this scam.
nah...we do that lifting weights in the basement. After I hang the punching bag this weekend, we'll be having even more fun!

If she does, I will donate my old 2 pc Nomex driving suit to the cause.
So that's how your going to get.......Never Mind !!! :winker::confused1

I couldn't find the old pix on the site and I'm too lazy to go digging thru the file cabinets here, but this Simplex with the twin West Bends was like what we used when I was a kid. :)

This is my daughter below on her kart, which we still have. She was a couple years away from driving it by herself when this was taken.
When we turned her loose, I ended up putting throttle stops on to keep her slowed down, 7hp Tecumseh was little much till she got older.
We put her on the track and she started lapping the boys, so they wouldn't race with her anymore. :D
She is now going on 24 and I still can't slow her down. Dads beware what you wish on your little girls !!!

I was talking with a guy the other day that was putting together a new cart his 12 year old son was going to race. It was his 3rd cart and the frame was about 3 grand. It was very trick with twin piston caliper brakes, lightened parts, and a mold to fit seat. He said an alcohol burning Briggs and Stratton running about 9 HP was another 3 grand. I assume an adult cart would be similar if you buy new.
