why?

in one hour of driving each way each day I get to listen to 45 minutes of commercials and 15 minutes of music unless I want to listen to the bleeding heart liberals on NPR...

:laugher: :laugher: :laugher:
I feel that as these services draw more subscribers, advertisement will follow. Then you you will be paying to listen to commercials... Just as you pay to watch commercials is you have cable or satellite TV. :angry1:

Where do you live, death valley? You can't get more than 2 stations on your radio? I just change channels. :)

I'm considering getting it also.

Delphi Roady 2, Wal-Mart $128.00. Move it from car-truck to boat. An extra ant for the boat would be ok, but no problem-plug power to the lighter and place antenna on dash-great portability. As said in other post-modulates through antenna to unused M freq. Even to house with a 110 power supply

I just can bring myself to pay for radio. To each there own :D

I just got a Delphi Roady 2 last month. I bought a home kit for home and one for work. I love it. It is especially great on long trips. I like the portability of the tuner. I can move it from my truck to my car, my boat, my house, or my office. The more you pay in advance the better the rate you get too. I thought I would never pay for radio either, but one long trip in a friend's car who had XM and I was sold. The comedy channel is great too. You can get a special marine kit with a marine antennae for them too. A good q&a can be found on Crutchfields website www.crutchfield.com search for XM or Sirius and click the how to buy button or look here for reviews http://www.crutchfield.com/S-LSHtKZuGn61/guides/satellite/. :alien:

If you're into smashcar (NASCAR) then XM is the only way to go. Here in Houston, there are four less cool stations then there were when I moved here 6 years ago. Recently KLOL FM101.5 was 'taken over' :dead:
and is now called LATINO AND PROUD MEGA 101.5. :bandit: Damn banditos!!! GRRR. They were my #1 station. Plenty of Country & Western but of course this is Texas!
Now there are three left that I like and only two of them play anything worth a crap most of the time. It's satellite radio for me very soon.

Myself and many other close friends/family all thought the same thing. We had talked about it many times.

Well, one friend bought a new SUV that had it and after many of us had rode in this vehicle and listened to XM - BANG - thoughts changed instantly.

It is quite remarkable. All of our minds had changed once listening to it.

Yes, in this day and age everything seems to be paid on a monthly basis - cable, sattelite tv, phone. electric, cell phone, DSL, internet, car, boat, motorcycle, etc, etc. And now Radio? Where does it end? This question is usually the reason for saying NO - I'm not doing it with radio too! Well, it is more than worth it.

If you do not want to get it just make sure you never listen to it. Once you do you have to have it.

Mrs Ghart has XM in her Accord, factory installed, and loves it. She bought 2 years in advance at $8.50 per month. You can get it down to $5 per if you opt for a 5 year term.

I have a Sirius/JVC car kit and a home kit so we have it in our camper and move the car kit around in the truck, boat and car I never listen to fading radio channels or advertisements. the car kit is wireless so no wiring easy to move from truck to the boat. it also has a large display which list the artist and song name. the music broke down into categories so you can find the type of music and era , also has news or talk radio and sports.
Sirius also has a web-page you can listen to the same channel from your computer if your a scriber.

Sirius gies you an opprtunity for a perpetual license for a one time fee of $499 - never pay again for their service...
I was told that Sirius was having financial problems.

I was told by the stereo store that the majority of the users of this type service uses XM.

The store I was looking at systems sells both services. The sales guy was using Sirius on his car and was changing to XM because of the better programing with XM. He said he thought the music selection on XM was better.

Who has used both and can tell us which is best?????

I also have been looking at satellite radio. I like the Delphi system because I can move it easily from car to boat and to a boom box.

System was around $99.00 and then you bought the car adapter for about $99.00. Boom box another $99.00

it's ok RS - lotsa folks were saying the same thing about TV ten years ago...

:laugher: :laugher:
... and where has it gotten us?

$30/mo MINIMUM

If your lucky you will find maybe 10 or 20 channels, out of the hundreds, with watchable content. Then, if they are not premium movie channels, your still watching 30-40% commercials. I guess it will continue as long as people send them money.

A friend has XM, I've played with it, and it's still money every month for radio. I will someday, buy my cheap arse will wait a little while, who knows how long. Nice to not have commercials, which we pay for on TV and still see. When we have o pay AND listen to commercials, that's when I don't want to pay for radio.

As long as it doesn't become a "utility" and is a separate REAL business, it should be fine. Had a cable guy in my driveway this weekend and called my cell. I didn't get it in time, so he left. Ever heard of a doorbell? Well, I'm cancelling my cable due to stupid employees that I'd be firing from my company and nothing will happen to them. THAT bothers me more than anything else.

At least XM is through a reseller you can go shove your size 12 somewhere. Unless you buy a new car with it. Looked at a new C6. On star and satellite radio. So, I've got monthly payments after 12 months, even if I pay cash for a $50,000 car. Dat ain't right. And the satellite radio thing looks hideous on a Vette.

XM

Have had XM for a couple of years. have not had a problem with signal even up into Canada.

If you boat with other people, check to see what system they have. That way multiple boats can broadcast the same music when rafted together.

In our area (Lake Erie) it is all XM. In fact I have yet to see someone that has Sirus in a car or boat.

One thing I hate about the Satellite TV content is all of the INFOMERCIALS :dead: Can't they find enough content? Sure they can. But they offer time slots at the early hours (ie, 1 AM-5 AM) for these paid advertisements. As if $50 bucks a month on average PER CUSTOMER isn't enough to satisfy them? Obviously not. There is TOO MUCH advertising on Satellite TV!
And I'm afraid that Satellite Radio is going to go the same route before long so enjoy the 'commercial free' content while you can.
Hopefully I'm wrong. Time will tell.
I'm off to Best Buy to look at XM and Sirius to check out their current offers.
