Interesting thread. We've been thinking of a dog for about 9 months now. Not sure if we want to leave a dog on summer weekends though. We do have a fenced yard, doghouse, lots of room, but it would be more work, which seems that we have enough of this to do already.

For us it is really no big deal if we leave mine for the weekend. For those that have a fenced in back yard, install a doggy door for them. Just lock it on rainy days or you got some cleaning to do inside.

Never have to let him out to pee, he does it himself :D

Jeff... after being raised with dogs ( Great Danes ) and getting married, moving out etc... I thought I wanted another dog after moving into my NEW house, boy what a mistake! I do love my dog ( Great Dane ) dearly but now my 4 year old house smells like "Dog" and I'm constantly cleaning up after my dog or worrying about my dog when we go for weekends on the boat not to mention the dog cost more to maintain than the boat annualy ( Vet bills vs. oil/drive fluid ) and the wife wants another!!!!

I vote for no dog!

So would our other mutt!! He LOVES my truck. He loves the boat too, but he is too big. So he must stay home.

I put Colby (our Chihuahua) in my pocket and go places. He loves the ladies, but not necessarily other men! He does think he's a great dane, and will tell you that, if he doesn't like the way you look!!

Rat Terriors are awesome dogs!

If I didn't have the duo that I have now, I would have a rat terrior. My daughter's family has one, and he is a hoot! But you have to get to know that dog before he will let you touch him...
