I have a Siberian Husky....just a little smaller than the Malumute. Great dogs. She's is not wild about the boat....prefers central air. Like any dog, requires training and attention. Went thru her puppy stage, and had a thing for oak mouldings for awhile!! She's ruined me, would be tough to consider another breed.

You all are Killing Me!!!.
Jeff You have had allot of input here, But on your first decision, that would be out very hard to train and they always want to run...another thing is the long hair . everywhere.

Most on here will know that I would choose a Lab. but work with them when they are young. the one with the little yellow pup just about broke my heart.

I lost nickie on her 2nd birthday and after paying a vet I knew for almost 10 years, thousands of dollar to save her. He is still sending me a 66.00 bill. the man looked me in the eye and said I am not worried about this you hear me.....

You will not believe the loyalty you will get from having a great dog, It is amazing.... they will be there for all of your family till there death.

what ever you decide just get one...
your choice
My baby was the best..... and I bought her for Ron not me. But she was so mine....

My golden could not ask for a more loyal and intelligent breed! He is my best friend and drinkin' buddy. Name is Doc! He is 13 years old and sharp! Does have a lot of hair, I have a weekly maid that has knitted her own dog from doc's extra hair.
Great dog for kids he raised two boys to be young men. He is the first person to be greeted when they come home from college!

Why is there talk of burdening others  ? Don't y'all have kennels on the east coast  ?? The dogs love it and you don't have to ask anyone to watch your dogs for you....in fact, you can take the friends with you instead of burdening them. For you good folks in the DFW area that want a GREAT kennel where your dog is loved and cared for by the best...bring'em here:

Actually, I collect Ertl die cast cars. We were trying to come up with a unique name and since he is a toy breed, we thought Ertl would be a little different. I didn't want him to begin with, but he replaced me when I was working in Charleston, SC last year! It was too late when I came home! He is a lot of fun and very much enjoys boating. He gets excited when were packing the cooler and sneaks out and waits by the truck.
That's what I suspected when I saw the name....it's a sick sick disease collecting toys:) Did you remove the straps on the dog? LOL!

My dog but too big for most boats. :)
Nice dog Saorise! I'm kinda worried about the pic though. Kissin' the dog.....and what's that number on your arm? :laugher: I'm thinking someone's loving his dog waaaay too much. :D Just kiddin' Saorise....that's one cool dog you have.

150,000 US families own a lab which is the single most popular breed.

Right now we have a 9 month old Choc Lab that just completed her OB training. Had a Rott for 11 years which is still my favorite and I might have another one within about 6 weeks...I have owned several labs, one German Shepard, and a Rott. I love all dogs so I would say just get what makes you happiest :) You will just know when you find your dog

If you get a working breed training is a must...These dogs have so much natural potential and instinct that it is a shame not to develop their potential. Everyone loves labs and retrievers and they are very approachable. If you want a protector a Rott is the only way to go. The most loyal and protective breed you can get. Once the dog realizes that you are his home and family no strangers will get anywhere close without you knowing. Rotts are suspicous and always curious as to what is going on around their home. We once had some large appliances delivered and my dog was on his back legs watching in the window of the kitchen every move the men made....When they left I let him in and he followed their trail to the door and sat their for 2 hours waiting for them to return. There is nothing more intimidating that a 155lb Rott roaming around your place. Most Rotts are going to be in the 90lb-130lb range which is truly an ideal size. I thought the $2500 my dog cost was alot but I stand corrected. Dog training is one of those things that is worth every penny :D

I have used Mans Best Friend, they have several locations and I can always get you a great deal since I have been with Bob back when he first started.

If anyone wants a dog from their site or info on training let me know, I promise that you will be very impressed at what they can do. They have several locations around the country and their training is $500-$2500. The $2500 is AOC(attack on command)which is inclusive of all training services they offer. I swear it was the best value I ever got for my dollar and I would have paid fourtimes as much and still felt like I got a good deal.

ROFL! I didn't even notice the number. We were at a Dog Show near St Louis and had just left the ring. He is a cool dog and believe it or not just a pup.
