Honestly, those are great dogs. We just had to put ours to sleep last April because he had becomes quite ill. The damn thing was 18 years old! That was one tough dog. I don't know how many times he had been stepped on, kicked (accidentally), or fallen out of bed. He also had three life-threatening illnesses throughout those years. He would probably still be here if we hadn't put him down.

We bought two labs over the past three years, and he didn't back down from them, not even once! My 100-pound Chocolate lab was actually intimidated by an 18-pound dog.

My turn, although I have not owned an English bull Terrier, it is the dog I have wanted for decades. The following is from the AKC Website: "Today's Bull Terriers are playful, fun-loving, sensitive, and affectionate dogs who make wonderful pets and companions, despite their tough appearance.

They have tiny triangular eyes, and short erect ears.

Bull Terriers are happiest when they are with the people they love, the closer the better. They are miserable and unhappy if shut away in a basement or kept outside away from human companionship."

I grew up with Chihuahua's and my wife and I now have our second English Springer Spaniel. Mutts are great because you wont have to deal with purebred problems. Someday I'll have my Bull Terrier. My .02

Beware of Bull Terriors. My brother had one and had to shoot it when it shredded any animal, I mean anything that wandered into his yard. Then it tore up a neighbor's kid.

That thing was bizarre.

If you consider one, please be careful.

Jeff my nieghbor just had a litter of Golden retrievers. I am not sure how many they have left. They all have akc papers. For about six years I used to work and train dogs every day. I worked with shepards and Malamutes. They area both good dogs I had a shepard and they just seemed to have a better personality than the malamutes. The shepard I had was the best dog ever. He was a outside dog we had to keep him in a kennel outside. I used to have a neighbor feed him while we were on the boat or away. That was the way to go but it was not much of a family pet. Our new dog is a inside dog and my wife cannot stand it in the house.

Bob - thanks for the details..

Karen and I have been doing a lot of talking and I spoke at length with my brither-in-law who has a ches bay retriever that eh uses for duck hunting.

We think that a golden retriever of a chas bay retriever is going to be too big of a dog. we really want a mid-sized dod, since it'll be a house dog.

I appreciate all the sugesstions and ideas....

I am still leaning toward a Harrier...

Jeff,

My buddy bought a Harrier about 2 years ago. All I can tell you is that the Harrier is full of energy and needs allot exercise if you plan on keeping her in the house. I also think the Harrier is a hound. If so, it'll take more time to train it than a dog from the sporting class. Just my .02

If you really want a dog.....

...Take the family and make a few trips to the Pound. Set a firm # of trips you are going to make and after that # of visits.....

.... make your selection.

I guarantee you will know what kind of dog......and which individual dog you want. :winker:

Does the 'pup' have it's own zip code???

That, my friend, is a dog!!!! :D
In that pic he was not quite (2) years old and about 140# He has most of his height but will get a little taller and fill out. Should tip the scales at about 180# when he is full grown at three, next November.

Here is what he looks like on all (4) feet. For those who may not know what he is ... he is an Irish Wolfhound. I have been owned by this breed for about (30) years. They are great dogs but don't fit too well in the Velocity280. :winker:

If you like the Harrier you may want to look at a whippet. Smaller then a Harrier but a tough, fast, sweet dog that looks like a small Greyhound. They are also easier to find the a Harrier as the Harrier while not rare is hard to find. As far as training dogs in the sight Hound family, not to worry. They learn very fast but hate repetition. They will learn quickly but if you ask them to repeat something more then twice they will look at you as if to say, "what are you F***ing crazy, I already did that twice!" If traing is too long, too boring, or two repetitive a sight hound will change the rules or make up new ones. :laugher:
