I'm just surfing the web tonight a little looking around, and came across some job sites, like Monster, etc. My wife is thinking of working part time (RN) around July or so.

Why is it that Monster seems to have crap? Financial Reps, Insurance Reps (I've been there done that years ago, these jobs are crap unless you like to make $15k a year for 3 years which I wasn't doing with a post grad degree) or work from home stuff????? Oh boy.

It seems you have to go through lots of fluff for that. I'm just glad I'm not looking.

I'd not even know where to start. Which leads me to, even out of curiosity sake, where do you look for executive jobs paying 6 figs+ and not have to go through the "fancy pants exec search leeches"? Not Monster....LOL!

I think we'll stick to the localities for my wife at this point, but are any of you out there looking? What do you use? Seems like Monster.com is a Monster with BS stuff jobs. Probably some good in there, but wow.

What sites do you use? What sites do you NOT use?

Sites like Monster will get you an average job. To make big money, you need a highly sought after skill or trait. You'd be better off seeking out a placement firm that specializes in the kind of skill (i.e. nursing) you have. They are the ones that have an inside track on a good job. Otherwise, you're going to have to know someone on the inside that alerts you when a high paying position becomes open.

The very best way for high paying jobs is to work for yourself. You will never make more than the boss, as an employee. :D

I believe it still has alot to do with "being in the right place at the right time" or "knowing someone".... as a CPA in private practice I hear about alot of "good" paying jobs from clients willing to pay for "good" employees.... but they have a hard time finding "good" employees! many college grads have the attitude that because they have earned a degree or two that they have already paid their dues & deserve a big paycheck... well guess what.... throw out your ego & get ready to prove yourself to the people that sign your paycheck.... because the degree only proves you can & will learn.... not that you make a good employee.... I suggest you start with the professionals you know & deal with... your Doctor, Lawyer, Accountant.... ask them if they know anyone looking for someone of your wifes caliber... they know you and her & perhaps they can help find a good fit.....

If anyone knows of a way that I can get a six figure job without any experience please let me know.

Things to keep in mind:
I do not want to buy a manual or videos.
I do not want to buy the software that allows me to make millions working from home.
I do not want to make decisions.
I do not want to learn.
I do not want to work weekends (including Fridays) or holidays, or nights, or overtime.
I don't want to have to talk on the phone, see customers, walk, drive, or lift anything heavier than a dough nut.

Oh and if it's close to my home and I can keep the miles off my vehicles, that would be a +.

Thanks in advance,
Sean

Except for the weekends, holidays requirement, you're looking at a career in professional sports! :D :D

I would like to know what some of the people on this site do for a living. I have seen some really fancy boats and (most recently) houses. Not to mention cars, motorcycles, etc.

I went to school to be in Manufacturing. I work for a large global company ($10 bil/year) currently as a supervisor, but semi-temporarily to get acclimated with the product/processes then will roll into some sort of operations management roll or engineering roll. Wifey is a dental hygienist, so she has a fairly mobil job. Combined, we do well, but individually, we would each be making enough to live comfortably. I have heard the term "Dinks" or dual income no kids a few times.

I am going back to get an MBA this fall. And am also looking into real-estate (private business potential), but haven't moved on anything yet.

I DONT HAVE A POT TO PISS IN!
I MAY BE DIFFERENT BUT I HAVE A 7 YEAR OLD TRUCK PAID FOR, A 13 YEAR OLD BOAT ALMOST PAID FOR, 2 SNOWMOBILES PAID FOR, AN ENCLOSED 4 PLACE TRAILER PAID FOR. A CONDO, WHICH WE HAVE PLACED ON THE MARKET THIS WEEK. I AM 24 YEARS OLD BA VEICHLE DESIGN JUST FINISHED, AND GOING BACK FOR A CIVIL ENGINEERING DEGREE. NO WORK IN THE AUTO SO I WENT THIS WAY. NOW I AM LUCKY IF I MAKE HIGH 30'S A YEAR AT THE MOMENT(MY MAIN JOB). TO LEAD THE LIFE STYLE I LIVE I HAVE TO WORK SEVERAL JOBS, EVERYTIME I GET A CHANCE I TAKE ON WORK. I SELL BOATS PART TIME, SHRINKWRAP ON MY OWN, AND DRIVE A HILO AT A LOCAL MARINA. I DO CONSTRUCTION SIDE JOBS WITH FRIENDS, ETC... I HAVE TO BUST MY BALLS TO DO EVERYTHING I WANT TO DO IN LIFE. JULY AND AUGUST ARE THE ONLY DAYS I DONT WORK 7 DAYS A WEEK FOR THE MOST PART. ON TOP OF ALL THIS I HAVE ENOUGH FLUID CASH TO TAKE THE NEXT 2 YEARS OFF. FROM DAY ONE I HAVE ALWAYS WORKED MY *** OFF FOR EVERYTHING I HAVE GOT, AND THIS IS WHEN I HATE TO HEAR THESE WENNIES COMPLAIN THEY DONT MAKE ENOUGH MONEY, IF YOU DONT THEN GET OUT THERE AND GET ANOTHER JOB. MAKE THINGS HAPPEN FOR YOURSELF. I AM ALWAYS MAKING NEW CONTACTS NO MATTER WHERE I GO BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHATS ON THE OTHER SIDE. I WOULD TAKE A JOB AT MCDONALDS IF I KNEW IT WOULD BENEFIT ME. WE ALL JUST HAVE TO GET OUT THERE AND WORK HARD FOR WHAT WE WANT-SORRY FOR RAVING

I work at everything I do. I sell heavy equipment for a living. You can make a couple hundred a year or half a mil. It all depends on how hard you want to work. And how greedy you are. I have not drawn a salary paycheck in 18 years. If I dont sell I dont eat its that simple.

sunsation98,
I'm a weenie by your definition. I don't make enough money.

You can tell you are 24 by your post. I have 10 years on you and don't know much at all and not content for a single day. Despite getting my BA in business, an MBA in business, and starting my own company in 1997 that is now a multi-million dollar business, it's not enough. We try MANY business ideas every year to grow. Not all of them work. Some of them take months, YEARS to get going strong, and everything we do takes money to drive it. And it isn't usually the kind of cash you'd have sitting around in the bank.

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't sit and envy a guy just working for someone getting a paycheck. That guy just has to worry about his own "personal" business of paying for ahouse, food, etc. He is not stressed with the financial responsibility of employees along with his/her own families.

I worked from 9-6 at a day job, then till 2-3 am every day for YEARS, and of course worked weekends to get this business going. When I left my 9-6 for the business, I worked about 18-20 hours a day, 7 days a week. Didn't need to worry about owning a boat, I'd have never had time to use it. Before that, I worked and went to college. So, if working your *** off is making you irritated, you're just getting started my man. Better nip it and deal. However, if you've got time to use snowmobiles and a boat, you aren't working THAT much. You may work hard, but everyone here does, or they're not working for long.

Having said all that, I don't make NEAR enough money. Bill Gates is doing all right, but when I pass him up I just MIGHT be content, but probably not. It drives my wife nuts

The day I'm content is the day I no longer get out of bed.

Fast Fever,
My hat's off to you. Sales can be rewarding, but getting up and running is tough. I'm sure in 18 years you have some income you can "count on", but it takes a certain person to not only DO the job, but to also DEAL with the unknown factors.

Nice post 32 Fever. It takes real marbles to quit a steady paying job. I hope one day, I can do that. Like I said, I am dabbeling the idea of real estate, but 9 times out of 10, it is a TON of money that is going out all at once for a SHOT of making a profit. By the way, I am 26, I work hard because one day, if I don't have the marbles to quit a steady job, then I want that steady job making me some serious cash. I have worked for the same company at 3 different locations so far (Illinois, Georgia, and now Ohio). I plan on starting my MBA in the fall like I said earlier. I don't mind paying my dues, I don't expect anyone to GIVE me a job, that is why I move and don't have a problem furthering my education.

I DIDNT MEAN THAT TOWARDS YOU AT ALL-BY NO MEANS WAS I DIRECTING IT AT ANY ONE PRESON HERE ON THIS BOARD, MY HATS OFF TO YOU IF YOU TOOK IT THAT WAY, MY BAD BY ALL MEANS.....

THAT BEING SAID, I MAKE THAT STATEMENT BECUASE MOST ALL MY FRIENDS I KNOW COMPLAIN ABOUT NOT MAKING ENOUGH MONEY, AND AT THE SAME TIME THEY WILL NOT PUT THE EXTRA EFFORT INTO BETTER THEMSELVES. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TAUGHT TO WORK HARD TO GET WHERE YOU WANT TO BE. SO I AM A FIRM BELIEVER THAT YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH.

I DO HEAR A LOT OF WINNING FROM ESTABLISHED PEOPLE, HERE, THERE, A LITTLE BIT OF EVRYWHERE THAT THEY DONT MAKE ENOUGH AND YET TRY TO BLAME IT ON SOMEONE ELSE. OR JOB MARKET OR ECONOMY ETC.

IF YOU WANT TO SUCCEED YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!

THATS ALL I AM TRYING TO SAY-NOTHING BAD ABOUT ANYONE HERE.

32Fever, the answer isn't just one. It's a combination of things. It's a combination of education, subject matter expertise, successful track record, goal setting, but more importantly, networking that connects you.

I agree in that there are a ton of sleezball headhunter out there just trying to put a sqaure block in a round hole. But there are a few executive placement companies which are credible and regarded as trustworthy by the quality corporations. It's good to find a good one and get connected with them. These guys never advertise, they seek you out by your track record, noteworthy successes and referrals.

What a few guys are talking about in this post is financial intelligence. It has nothing to do with that. Managing your assets and portfolio is a completely different conversation. Except for when it comes to thinking the money you are receiving is not enough to pay for your lifestyle. Then that's another conversation as well.

But to achieve what your looking for the answer is to remain visible in the eyes of the market you want to work in and be part of. It sounds like you certainly have the education and practical experiences on your cv so now it's time to identify who might find that desireable and how do they find their people. Try calling a company you'd like to work for as an exec and find out who they do their executive searches with. Then find that guy and work with him. Do that with a few.

The other thing is to be involved in a network that caters to your subject matter expertise. Chambers, Associations, benefits, etc. The one basic message in marketing is "get in their face". You need to market yourself.

As far as the right fit in terms of employee vs proprietor, to each his own. But executive level jobs can provide you with both in terms as a roll to fill and stock options, incentives and your own private investment in the company it's not always about the salary.

BUt there's one thing we'd all agree with. The acronym is this: ydmamsoya. (You don't make any money sitting on your a$$)

Sunsation98 is the most hard working person I've ever met, and the most concious about where his money is going!!! if everyone was like him you wouldn't see 60+ year olds working at Mc Donalds!

That said I'm just the opposite from him, I've got a degree in engineering but don't want to work 60 hrs a week and worry about when my jobs going over seas! I choose to work 40 hrs or less a week so I can spend more time with my family and friends! I've got a job that most people think of as a pissant grunt job for a lowlife highschool dropout! But I've made 100K a year since I was 23 years old working 40 hrs or less, plenty of money to live "comfortably" with no worries of being outsourced or downsized! yes I want to make more but at the same time when the unemployment rate is at an all time high I'm just lucky I'm not on Monster.com looking for a way to feed my family!
