For me, a 1969 VW bug, run in 1977. L gas class.
11.70's in the quarter mile @ around 120.
Total car weight was 1180 pounds, if I remember right.
Dyno 240hp @ 7k rpm. 2 litre engine built by me with twin 48IDA Webers.
I sold it when it 'FLEW' at the top end during one run. When you turn the steering wheel and when it does not respond, and instead you see the car going UP, it's time to quit. Luckily it landed straight enough to recover. SCARY!!
VW bugs are like wings. They create lift. Even though they have the aerodynamics of a brick, they also have the aerodynamics of a wing! So, they are VERY light when going fast.
I don't know if who I sold it to survived, or just used it for smoking them Chevy's on Saturday night!
