My lovely wife decided it would be a good idea to babysit my neice and nephew for the next 5 days. We just moved into a new home and not having kids, the house is far from childproof. These kids are currently running wild through my house like a bunch of savages. They are torturing my poor dogs while they are at it. Short of a good beating, does anybody have any suggestions on what I can do with or to these beasts to settle them down. They are 2 and 4 years old. I think a nice beating may be in order for the old lady once these animals clear out. The 4 year old was just pushing the stroller around and smashing into my kitchen cabinets. These are solid cherry cabinets!!! ConceptMike is rescuing me on Saturday and we are going fishing. I do believe this is the exact reason I do not have or want kids.

mike,
simple entertainment is the best, get a cardboard box of say 3 by 3 feet and let them have at it. some of the simplest things make the best toys for the little ones.
Cant agree more...simple things are what kids that age love...a old refrigerator box works great!!

Ours are 13,15,12.....or if you can hire a local teen to babysit for a bit, that might help too!!

Duct tape is cool, and it doesnt hurt or leave marks!! :laugher:

Until you take it off! :(

Games and videos are great for inside, but playing outside is the best! Take them to a park or playground where they can run around and really tire themselves out, then take them home for a LONG nap!

When they're in the house, don't them get over-stimulated on sweets and sugary drinks. And if they do run around like wild Indians, get down to their level, look them in the eyes and say 'NO!'. Set boundaries for when and where they are allowed to play, and if they break the rule, give them a time-out... 2 minutes for the 2 yr old and 4 minutes for the 4 yr old. When the time is up, have them apologize before they're allowed to get up. Kids need boundaries otherwise they'll do as they please. Think about it, they probably see your house as one, big, happy, amusement park with no parents in sight... Party Time! :D

Good Luck, and remember this too shall pass! :)

Jeff says if they still get out of line, make them do push-ups until they collapse!

Excellent suggestions. I couldn't think of anything better.
Remember this, it's your house, your rules... no matter whose child it is.

One thing, don't let them take a nap too late in the afternoon....they won't got bed when you want them to. Our rule is no naps after 3pm, unless they are going home. If they start to fall asleep, wake them up and get them playing!

My step daughter has a 5 year old girl and a 2 year old boy and let me tell ya the 2year old is 100% boy.
Talk about a devious little sh!t :devious: . I love them both to death but when they come over to the house I am usually good for about 2 hours then I retreat to the garage and lock the door.
Kiara, the 5 year old is easy to entertain. Just pop in a dvd and you will forget she is even there. Now J.D.(Jeffrey Damien) otherwise known as(Spawn). You have to watch him like a hawk or he is gonna ruin your day in a big hurry.
All I know is thank God my daughter is 16 years old and I don't have to deal with little kid problems on a day to day basis. Instead I deal with these punk guys that do nothing but dress like thugs and look at my daughters a$$. :angry1:

What do ya do about a boy crazy 16 year old girl?

Put them in a trance !

Ie: Put the Cartoon Network on ! As long as the TV is on they will be Zombies. :laugher: :laugher: :laugher:

BTW: as most of us know they love attention - doesn't matter if its good attention or bad attention. When they do something bad and we react it 'feeds their fire.' Very bad catch 22.

Adults yelling, pouting, etc/etc keeps them energized. It's kinda' sick but it is kids.
