A good filter that works down to 20/30 microns, can hold a lot w/o getting plugged, has a strong can to avoid bursting and has a good bypass is important. I think most filters are made by Wix, Champion, Purolator, Baldwin and Fram. I have seen a lot of bad press and tests on Fram and the old Ac/Delco.
Don't know who makes the Merc filter. Anyone?

If I miss any-please let me know and I can add it to the poll.

Although name brands change vendors-the following seems accurate.

Purolater makes Motocraft
Champion makes Mobile 1, STP, K&N
Fram makes Penzoil
Baldwin makes Amsoil
Wix makes Napa

Most filter manufacturers that make filters for other brands make them to a different spec than thier brand. The amsoil filters made by baldwin are not an exact match to the same Baldwin filter. I run Baldwins in all my vehicles, I order them from Associated Diesel in the six pack ussually.

I'll use K&N or Hastings (same as Amsoil), and sometimes Wix or Baldwin. Never Fram. Mobil 1 is a really good filter that is custom made for them by Champion Labs which is a company that makes number of different, mostly inexpensive, and house branded filters.

Mercruiser 35-802885T

Cost $6.95 -- Local marine store
ADBV material: nitrile
Spring type: leaf
Baseplate hole area: 0.297 sq/in
Filter area: 182 sq/in; 56 pleats
Center tube hole area: 1.32 sq/in
Total Weight: 425 grams
Filter and endcap weight: 3.75 oz
Average largest pore size: 78 µm
Smallest pore size: 34 µm
30W 70F Oil flow @ 10psi: 14.8 oz per minute
This filter appears to have very good to excellent flow and low to below average filtration.

This filter has the same characteristics as other Champion made filters (the same as the AC Delco and STP). While it doesn't have a "1" marking on the baseplate, it has a "3" marking.

It has five equally size intake holes, a nitrile ADBV, and 182 sq/in of media. A leaf spring holds everything together.

I am using the Fram racing filter.

I guess I use Fram because we were given them free when I was racing Pro Stock.

There may be another brand that is better but I have never had any problems with fram.

Wix is one of my customers we sell them deep drawn fule lines for fuel filters.

This thread is interesting to see the comments of what every body uses.

I worked for Baldwin filters in the 70's.
Some of our Baldwin filter rejects would still pass Fram filter specs. So it was kinda like "Factory Seconds" :laugher:
I would not put a Fram filter on my EX-Wifes car :confused1
If ya know what I mean? :dead:
