My Rant
By DonziGirl
Ok - lately I've been getting very annoyed with the male boating community. I will exempt those of you I met at Put-in-Bay because you didn't act in the following way. I would hope that the rest of you wont.
Here's a perfect example of what has been continually happening this summer. Two or three weeks ago, I had my boat put in the water from the rack. I'm there with two of my friends, both female. Its very clearly my boat as I'm the one taking off the cover, turning on the blower, checking the bilge, etc. I've got a v6 so I have to pump the gas a few times and turn the key a bit to get it started. This guy is standing on the finger dock next to me (his boat is on the other side) giving me advice on how to start MY OWN boat. "those v6's take a bit to start, now give it a little more gas honey, now try to turn it over again". I don't think he had any idea of how close he was to ending up in the water.
I've noticed that since I've acquired a boyfriend that guys just completely ignore me. I dont even have a name to some of the people that I've known for over a year. I went from Elizabeth or Donzi to "Tony's girlfriend". When the find out that I know something about boats and own my own and they can't really impress me with the fact that they own a boat, its like I'm invisible.
Now I'm sure all of you are going to say "I'd NEVER do anything like that" but honestly, how would you treat a girl that you met at a marina, or resturant or boating bar that had a boat and was semi-knowedgable about the subject? Tony seems to think its because they're intimidated and don't know what to do but whatever it is, I don't like it.
Any bright ideas on how to fix this problem guys?
