Well, it was a legitimate " how to "....that has now turned into a fiasco. Oh well.

I am considering purchasing a cheap bathroom vent fan and building ductwork/litter pan enclosure with a motion detector...when the cat enters to take a poo poo the motion detector triggers the fan ( and maybe a nice heat lamp to keep him warm this winter ) ....fan exhausts the stench out of the house...maybe I'll vent it closer to the neighbors house.... Have a timer on the fan to continue to exhaust for 10-15 minutes.

First off..I have cats and love cats so I do find some of the replies in poor taste but that is neither here nor there..everyone is entitled to feel the way they do.

What kind of litter do you use?

Jamie & I have 2 cats and we use the scoop away "extended odor control" and it works really well....

Also, they do have Litter Maid which though a bit pricy cleans the box automatically on its own once the cat leaves the box and scoops it into a chamber and there is no smell..

Also, since the cat is older..it might have bowel issues and well sometimes these things come with age..

I'm sure when i'm 14 in cat years i'll have issues myself most of which wont be within my control..

It isnt pleasant..but it is part of being a cat owner..not like the cat is doing it on purpose..but I know how it can stink! ;)

Good luck

Much of what we say here is in very bad taste! Check the unleashed section!
I know, I know.
Some people just get carried away sometimes.

Talking about litter....we used regular TidyCat brand for multiple cats. Two pans for two cats. I change them once a week and use 25 lbs of litter each week. No smell to speak of. BJ's Wholesale sells the stuff for about 7 bucks for a 50 lb bag.
I would use a scoopable litter, but thet stuff has to be picked through every day to remove the clumps. I don't pick kitty pans!!

Adding a fan and duct work sounds interesting, but it may spook the cat when it comes on. Then it'll never go near the pan.

We though about the Litter Maid pans. Just too expensive right now.

We have outdoor cats. They do come in at night (95% of the time) to sleep - we trained them to do this since we have some wild animals around.

If they get stuck inside for the whole day, believe it or not , they'll hold it even though we do have a litter box downstairs just in case.

The only time you'll catch them using the box is when it is super mega cold. Sometimes that won't even stop them.

Do like we do, find a nice Lab that eats it fresh. Cat sh*ts, dog follows up and has dessert.

I can't seem to break her of it either so as long as she is not licking me, I don't have to clean the box as much.

*on edit, that sounded kinda sick.

I am not a huge cat fan but when Vickie moved in with me her cat(Moses) came too. I will admit that she is a great cat and is waiting everyday to greet us at the door just like the dogs do.

This pic looks like something from Pet Cemetary. :laugher:
