<b>"Both imported and Chinese-made Cadillacs will sell for 518,000 yuan (US$63,170) ¡ª more than double the car's US base price of US$31,345, GM said.

The company didn't give a reason for the higher price, but heavier tariffs and material costs in China make most cars far more expensive than they would be elsewhere."

Double the cost? I though "made in China" was cheaper

It is, sorta, its much chepaer for us to IMPORT goods from China, then it is for our Manufacturing to build goods and EXPORT them to China.

It's ridiculous that we allow these other countries to impose such tariffs and taxes on OUR goods which make them ridiculously overpriced and unwanted in other countries, yet we don't dole out the same treatment when THEIR goods our imported to OUR country.

I agree with stingray our days of being a superpower are long gone... anyone catch any of the specials on the discovery ch on china? amazing and scary to watch kinda like a thunder storm brewing ......many billions of dollars in military toys and we can,t catch one bum on a hillside throwing rocks at us....... go figure

I don't care how much they charge the chi-coms for the cars......stick it to them and make it hurt.

Will be interesting to see how long it is before they start shipping Caddies from China to the US. That would be giving "aid and comfort to the enemy" as far as I'm concerned.

If or when that happens, it will be time for me to switch from GM/Cevy trucks, to another brand.

i've been predicting it for the last couple years. ford and gm are going to be forced to build in china and export to this country while the current "importers" build here. you'll get your toyota made in the usa and your ford made over there. as toyotas costs go up the fords will get the competitive edge and eventually the japs germans and koreans that got all the incentives to build here, will close the american plants and move to viet nam india etc in order to get the $$ edge. it is so faaked up
