Mitcher,

That is one hell of a nice looking boat! Outstanding work...

Ray,

Thanks for sharing this project with us. Now, you take good care of that beast, because I'm buying it from you in a couple years! Saving my pennies as I type this... :D

WOW!

Does the clear stop at the edge of the graphics, or does it continue over the whole surface? How do you protect the edges between paint and gel from the inevitable foot trafic or peeling. (Or is the paint that durable?)

Again - Nice Job!

Stephen

Ray,

I also noticed that the trailer was converted from a regular tongue to a fifth wheel. I am considering a similar retrofit. Did you notice a significant difference when towing? Any disadvantages? Who did the work? Did you keep the hydraulic brakes with an electric/hydraulic control box or did you convert to all electric?

Congrats on the new toy!

The clear is over the whole boat from the bottom chine up. This is my first painted boat my plan is for no one to wear shoes! The clear can be buffed or re-coated to repair easily. I dont think it is as strong as gel but easier to fix.

The trailer towing is awesome, I ordered the trailer this way as my truck is only rated at 10K on a standard hitch setup. The 5th wheel / goosneck application was the only way to go. I can drive just like it's not there (other than the length and weight,) steering is effortless. Plus when driving in snow the extra weight in the bed of the trucks helps significantly.

Disadvantages: I have to take my topper off every time I want to tow. The ball in the bed is easily removable but there still is a 1/4" lip for the plate. (there are others without the lip).

Whoa wait a minute Ray
LOL
You have a F350 diesel dually right with the 5th wheel in the bed?

You should be rated at 15,000 lbs with 5th wheel and 11500 on bumper with the hitch and ball mount.

How much you think this 47 on the trailer weighs in at?
17,000-19,000???
If your ford is effortless man im BLOWN away, that just freakin ROCKS!!
I thought these things were strong and tough but Damn dude, just shy of 10 tons and it is capable?
Whoa, thats cool man!!!

Jay,

I am using a gas V10 My hitch reciever says on 10K, I am still over the limit for the 5th wheel loading too, but it is the best I can do without buying a new truck.

I can put the cruise control on at 70 and it stays there, Driving is one handed. naturally up hills it will slow down. I figure it is at about 13,000 now, remember I still need to install about 4K worth of engines yet. We will see how it pulls then.

Not like i am going to trailer it all over the US but I feel I have made it the best it can be with my truck setup.

Thats cool man,
I wish you nothing but the best with this project and we will all be standing by to see pics and preferably a video in the video section of its mayden voyage out!!!
Congrats and best of luck to you

Sing me up for a Mitcher T calender too. :) Spectacular job!

Ray, how did you go about retrofitting to the gooseneck? I just went to a bigger boat, and a gooseneck may save me from having to buy another truck.

Mitcher T,
I have a 97 Black Thunder that wishes it was painted by you in 97. Gonna have to look you up this year!
Your an artist!!! Looks like you and you workers work very hard for perfection. It was awsome to read through this thread and see the progress!! Your lucky to be so talented.
Thanks for the pics, Mike Eckman

Glad this thread popped up again. Didn'tsee this one when it was running. This gives me all sorts of ambition to get working on my graphics. I just need the cold to go away a bit.
