I had a 1998 29 Fever with a single 525 SC - it was a real bog-o-matic out of the hole... I have heard that the twin 454's are better getting on a plane, but that they were not as well balanced as the single engine 29's. Mine always flew straight and level, but I had done some mods to her - IMCO -2 shortie, longer K-planes etc. The twin 502 models typically run 81 - 82 mph +/-. I would guess that the 454's would run mid to upper 70's. The best I ever saw out of mine was 78.

If you want a twin engine FountainI would look at the 32 - they seem to be better balanced for the weight of the big blocks. If you go with a single engine 29, get the HP500 - the 525SC did not have enough bottom end to get it on a plane quickly.

Either way, Fountain is a well built boat.

Thanks for the info, a 32 would be great but it looks to be out of the budget at this time. I agree that a single 29 would have a better balance but I wonder if that sacrifice would be worth it to go with twins because of shear power issues. Hopefully someone will chime in that has had the 454 twin combo

Might not matter, but I did ride a few times in a 29 with 525 and it was slow coming out of the hole, but once up it did great.... Pretty fast too!!

I just think the weight of twin big blocks in a boat of this size might be an issue. I'm sure this boat has to be stern heavy and I just wonder what problems or issues that would cause other than not being able to get in the engine bay to work on anything

I own one.....

I've had a 29 with twin 454 385MPI's for several years now..... its a great boat.... period.... the sinking chit is pure non-sense.... I've overnighted in the boat many time & always wake up dry ;) ..... I run 28 labbed Bravos right on the rev limiters & it pops on plane effortlessely even with 140 gals of gas & 4-5 people.... boat will run as close to 80 mph as you can get.... maybe a little more if it is light on fuel & 1-2 people.... It handles rough water much better then the single 29's I've ridden in..... obviously because of the weight.... and the MPI's are thrifty on gas in general... I have a brother with a 32 with 525SC's & use about 1/3 less fuel overall when we go out together.... It also uses about the same fuel as my buddies Velocity 280 with a single 525SC! That was hard for him to swallow..... Its trailerable with a 1/2 to P/U.... its flat out fun as hell to drive fast.... GREAT BOAT....

Operative word being "IF"..... so until you can.... how about stating what you know... not what you've heard ;)
Like I said it's a local boat, I know the owner first hand. It's hardly hearsay. I just honestly can't find the pictures.

Basically the boat was new to him and he parked it on the beach along side all the other boat(protected water with no waves). With the boat being so tail heavy the rear sat really low in the water. After a short time someone noticed the rear was getting even lower. Luckily the water was shallow enough that a BUNCH of guys jumped in the water and did what they could to hold up the back of the boat till the bilge could catch up. Amazingly it worked. The water only got up the starters and once the bilge caught up he leaned a valuble lesson. He still has the boat and loves it. He just have be very careful how he parks it.

That's what you call sinking? I'd say that could happen to any number of boats.... why single out 29 Fountains?

I've heard this rumor for years.... more about the 32's then the 29's & I have NEVER spoken to anyone having seen a 29 actually sink first hand....When I first heard this rumor I called Fountain to get thier take on it... obviously they never heard of it either... but what would one expect from them:rolleyes: ... I believe its a rumor & nothing more.... there are lots of 29's & 32's out there & everyone I've met that has one loves it... only people I ever hear bad mouth them never owned one... so who you going to believe? nuff said... ;)

They do sit low though.... but I like the look :D

The 29 looked good on the big river that weekend. Besides it is great for me. You keep trying out/tweaking/pampering these gorgeous boats and all the hard work is done when they get to me:D Always like the idea of the 29 with the twin 454 mags or 502's. Heavier=better ride but still great speed #'s. And they have "The Squat" missing from the single's stance in the water.
