OK, I know some of us have big boats and we tow them with usually big trucks, but sometimes you go down the street or at the boat ramp you see this small vechile with the large trailer. I just want to know what some people get by with. Like I have a Avalanche and we pull a 6k lbs Rinker, trailer included. One night a friend came over with his S10 Blazer, 4.3 liter V6. I wanted to go and fill the boat up b/c gas was cheap at the time and my wife had the Avalanche so he towed the boat to a nearby gas station, it was only about a mile away. But while we were at the gas station someone drives by and hells out the window get a bigger truck. :D

So what does everyone use to pull there boat, I'm just looking for the drastic differences.

Ive pulled my 40' Excalibur with my F250 crew cab single rear wheel pickup. It had the power, and towed it ok, but Im going to set my Mack Semi Tractor to pull it if we go on the highway with it. Ive pulled a 24ft Chris craft with a ford ranger, and a ford explorer, now that was a scary ride.

Before all the "Safety Sam" guys chime in with lectures about towing safety, remember those times you left the bar after having a few too many and drove home. Thats no better. :D

Well my father use to have a 01 Explorer and we towed our waverunners pretty much every week and it was a breeze and we've put the boat in and out with it and it was easier to get the boat out.
Well we now have a Ford Excursion that we will use to go on a few trips every now and then.

I had a 97 tahoe last year this year a 98 yukon my Tahoe got totalled, it was great around town in ramp lots o low end power on the highway It was working and had to becareful around buses/trucks i'm loooking into jumping from my 242 to a 272 so this is one issue on my plate right now

Nice rig Cuda.....How do you like that newer diesel?.......I use an 01 F-350 Crew Dually.
I love it. Turned 52,000 miles today, and zero problems. They are coming out with the 6.4 liter now I believe. I'll wait a couple years for them to get the bugs out. That's why I didn't buy an early 6.0, they had many problems with them.

My last dually was a brand new Chebby diesel. It had what they called the Outlaw package. Beautiful truck, but I had so many problems, I ended up using the lemon law on it. It also broke me of wanting another dually. They are a b!tch to park, and one time I got the tires stuck in the drive through at the bank. It was embarassing to get out and make everyone move back so I could back out. :confused1

You're kidding, right!

Um Yeap!. With the boat on the trailer, the body would sit on the rear axle. I used the Jeep to move the boat around in my garage a couple of times and had to leave the tonge jack down with a wheel on it.

I swapped the Jeep for a friends Excursion to haul the boat to the lake and bring the trailer back home and just swapped vehicles back on the way home. Looked like a photo moment. :)
I had the crazy thought that I didn't need my 250SD just for the 2 times a yr to tow the boat, so traded that off for the Jeep. 6 months later I wanted to take the boat outta of state and couldn't find a loaner, so the Jeep went towards my new 250 V-10. 1 1/2 yrs later, I put a total of 500 miles on the truck. Expensive hobby these boats are. :)

I pull a 27' with a 2000 Tundra. It's my first boat, and when I bought it I looked at the weight vs towing capacity and I was 700# under. I never thought to add trailer, gas, and stuff. Total is about 8300#, so I'm a little over. Wife has already approved a super duty maybe next summer. Until then no long road trips, lake is about 5 miles away.
