Al Gore is a freakin genius !

We have yet to hit 100 degrees this year. The old record for latest date to hit 100 was July 30. Today is August 7.

Yea, this global warming will consume all of us before long.

Well, It will get us eventually.

If not global warming, we will blow ourselves up.
I doubt anyone currently alive on the planet will live to see either of those events come to pass if they live to be 200!

come to cincinnati, we haven't seen temps below the high 90's for over a week, and have hit highs warmer then Las Vegas 2 days in a row! :dead1: I think the heat index is supposed to be 110 today! these are the days when I'm actually glad I work in a cube!

Baltimore has not hit 100 at all this summer. generally we have several days through 100 by this time of the year.

I think we're headed for another Ice Age myself. :fr2:

Went to Home Depot at 8:00 PM.....temp was 99, heat index still 107!!!

We had a fire in our dumpster at work today. I come back from lunch to see a fire truck in the parking lot. Turns out my guys dumped grass clippings in the dumpster a week ago and have since piled a bunch of crap on top of them....they started smoldering and actually ignited when they pulled some things off the top of them!!!!!

I've seen the same thing happen with a pile of mulch in winter. When organic material decomposes it generates heat, lots of it! Enough to start a fire regardless of the ambient temperature!

I know you started this thread as a jest but I sense some of posters with tree hugging tendencies have taken it as an opportunity to promote global warming as something we as humans have 100% control of. This is complete rubbish!

The fact of the matter is the surface temperature of the earth did rise 1.33 degrees during the 100 year period of 1900 to 2000.

Interestingly, the surface temperature declined during the decade of 1950 to 1960.

Al Gore et al will profess this has been caused by the automobile and the burning of fossil fuels exclusively and that we will all be extinct before long unless we give up our cars!

Well, the surface temperature of the earth has been increasing for millions of years! The proof of that is the fact that the earth is no longer covered with ice, remember the ice age?

Scientific studies suggest that temperatures have varied from peak to valley and back to a peak every 150,000 years. CO2 concentrations follow the trend of temperatures. If we somehow eliminated CO2, what would all green plants live on? :confused1

If you need something to sink your teeth into to support my thinking, here's a chart of findings of an ice core study covering the time span of the chart.

Heat index over 100 yesterday.

Damm ice melts too fast and waters down the cocktail.
I understand the problem. On my way home yesterday I called Mrs. Ghart at home and asked her to put the martini shaker with appropriate ingredients in the freezer.

Sure made for a properly chilled and undiluted treat! :yeah:

Isn`t that unusually hot for you guys up there , even in August ?

I myself, am enjoying these 98 degree days , with heat index of 108 or so ...

Usually it`s a few digits over 100 at this time of year.

Hey now, I dont believe we as humans are in total control of the current earth trend but some of the things we are doing on this earth dont seem to be helping prove that true.
Can you restate that so I can understand what you're trying to say? You lost me in the last part of your post.

Sorry about that.

Im trying to say that.....

We dont have total control of what is happening to the earth BUT, there are alot of things we do that do not help the issue of "global warming"
I'll agree with that but most of the worlds CO2 emissions are coming from parts of the world we in the us have no control over.

In this country, and most others, the emissions from cars and trucks have been lowered dramatically. Even my new Formula has a pair of ultra low emissions engines in it!

You need to ask this question about global warming. The events of the last century that supposedly are causing all this increase in temperature amounts to 1.33 degrees! So, what happened during the time prior to the last century that caused the ice to melt from the majority of the earth surface?

It is the change in the earth's orbit! That continues to occur regardless of any increase we may or may not have in harmful gases in the upper stratosphere.

Here is the facts of the changing orbit.....

The Earth's axis completes one full cycle of precession approximately every 26,000 years. At the same time, the elliptical orbit rotates, more slowly, leading to a 21,000 year cycle between the seasons and the orbit. In addition, the angle between Earth's rotational axis and the normal to the plane of its orbit changes from 21.5 degrees to 24.5 degrees and back again on a 41,000 year cycle. Currently, this angle is 23.44 degrees.

If the human race were to end today the earth's surface will continue to warm up as it has for hundreds of thousands of years.

So, how much control do you really think we have in dealing with this problem?
