Not real fast and a real slug getting up on plane from what I hear :(

Yup, Daryle at Formula said that is why they went up from 1:50 to 1:65 gear ratio trying to get better plane times.

I have a 1:65 gear set to try in my LS

I'd be happy if it went an honest 55-56, and planing was similiar to the 242 what ya think? close or not even?

I had 98 FORMULA 252SS WITH THE Bravo III and the 385hp and that Jumped on plane.

However my Fountain had a 415hp 502 and step Hull and that would take forever to get up,

I would think the 271 is a 61mph boat on the right conditions

So the fastech is worse getting on plane?
yes, and as Jake said, full tabs are almost required. Also, there is a white spacer in the drive where the trim ram bolts on. That spacer from Formula is BEHIND the bolt, which does not allow the drive to trim as far down as it can. Moving that spacer to the front of the bolt helps a lot. Its also there on the new 292's. Formula does it because the boat will bow steer badly if you move the spacer, and don't trim the boat as soon as you get on plane.

I've never driven a 271, but don't use the tabs on my 242/B1, its not a rocket ship but planes off fine at about 3K RPM.

The honest difference between a 242 and 271 is about 1 foot.

Did you need the tabs on your old boat 89?
