Better yet do a price equivalent on a self made motor of same specs.

You can build one hell of a motor for the price Merc charges. Hell you could build two motors for the price of some their higher end performance motors.

They are the only ones in the game for high performance.
They can, they do and will.
You think there is more R&D IN a merc than a car motor??? doubt it..
Biut all thing s equal marine costs more.
They sell fewer besides, so its gotta cost more!

Depends on how renouned the name on it is. I work with two engine builders here for my machine work. Both are great builders. One builds some Winston cup and Grand National engines. Guess witch one charges twice the price of the other for the same engine same parts?

I've seen this discussion on Tech threads before... there are actually a lot more differences between a GM and a Merc than you would think... the Merc is much higher quality piece of machinery.
There have been very long post's going into great detail from people in the business that have made a believer out of me.
Yea, they are still over priced, but like what has been stated, they don't have any competition... yet. ;)
GM is stepping up with their new Vortec motor, and spending some serious money promoting it for marine applications.
