thanks man, I have to do that kinda of stuff every day for print and stuff
Thats Cool, I used to be a pre-press stripper for 28 years myself, I started out in Silk Screening, then a Pre-Press trade shop, then worked for a Large Web printer, then went to a Large Sheet-fed Printer that also got into web printing, but my job was replaced when they finally got the direct to plate systems down pat, and they didn't want to train older guy's like me on Scitex or Mac DP, so they let my 28 yrs of experience azz go..
Now I'm in business for myself doing Home Improvements, What a switch, right?? :laugher:

WOW sorry to hear that unless your happy as hell with the outcome.
I get scared every time they hire someone half my age out of school. but I just have to ride it out until the ride is over i guess. your reply has sure got me thinking about a back up plan for sure

Sorry Rick, I know this has nothing to do with this thread.. ;)

I'm happy, despite the Huge pay cut, but I'm my own boss for better or worse and right now things are slow here for me and others in the trade, so I guess I could be happier with more work, but it's picking up a bit now.
I chose this because it's a hands on trade and they haven't come up with a robot yet to replace my job :laugher:
And yes, definitely think of a back-up plan, it sure can't hurt, they did the same thing by hiring new grad's out of college because they were cheap, they walked with there nose in the air for a while until they found out how much we got paid. We all knew though, it was just a matter of time over the years before we were eliminated. When I started at the last company we had 30 strippers, running a 24/7 operation, when I left, there was only 6, including the working supervisors, once the systems finally got to the point of producing 1 piece films fully paginated for press, all we had to do is check for problems, trapping, etc., once we worked out all the bugs, they eliminated the film route, and went direct to plate, once that was perfected, we were gone. All in All it didn't make sense to me, they spent over 9 million in a system that needs constant upgrading, in order to get rid of us..but that's the direction the Print Industry along with many other industries has taken, Less Tradesman, more automation = less workers=more profit. Personally I don't like the route the US industry & government has taken us, and I think it's just a matter of time before it all bites Everyone in the azz and I'm already feeling it.

Actually it kind of does. I have a minor in Visual Communication. That includes silk screening and printing. During the summer when I was out of school I used to be a 4-color stripper and plater. We printed Websters dictionary's and airplane navigation manuals. Even did some government work. :D :winker:
