Have your Cake and eat it Too!

Intouch1:

Order two of these from Joe or Wayne at Sunsation with the engine color package to match your new boat and I think you be up about $20K, spend some more coin on the CMI exhausts and you will be at 570HP per motor, with slightly more torque than the blue HP525's, still run on 87-89 octane pump gas and still have some serious savings in your pocket!
Good luck with the new Susnsation!

Best REgards,
Ray @ Raylar

This has been explained many time before. The hp500 or hp500efi's are 470 PROPSHAFT HP. 500hp at crank.

Well sorry if I confused numbers and engines at that moment!!! I will try not to waste your time again... ;)

How much power?

We've had HP525's on our dyno, calibrated and corrected to SAE standards, they make between 540-550HP at the crank at 5300 rpms at the crankshaft. The HP525 makes about 605 ft/lbs of torque at 4400rpms.
On the other hand a Raylar HO525 with either CMI sporttubes or Dana Flo-torque headers makes 560-570HP at 5200 rpms at the crankshaft ;) and 625ft/lbs of torque @ 4200 rpms.
Pick your Poisen, both Great motors!

Ray @ Raylar ;)

Get the 525s for sure. You are going to spend that kind of coin and skimp on the motors??? Don't you want your new boat to run fast now? Not 3 years from now? Do you want to tell everyone that you have the base engines? SPEND THE MONEY NOW!! Get AT LEAST 525s if not more power. A lot of people don't know that you can change the valve springs without pulling the heads if that's all they need. You put compressed air in the cyld at TDCC to hold the valves closed and use a screw type spring compressor. The Raylars look like a good choice also if offered from the factory. Don't go with 496s. You will regret it. This is not a slam on the 496. My boat has one, but only because it was the biggest power offered on my Donzi 22C. Your new Sunny, and you, deserve more. JMHO

No one is skimping buying boat engines!

Using Raylar HO525 S like we supplied to Sunsation for the new 288 S hull is not skimping on power! Perhaps you did not read my previous post. A Raylar HO525 with headers makes slightly more torque and horsepower than Mercury HP525's. As for a base engine, there are hundreds all over the world running the base 496 motor with Raylar upgrades for over four years now and they are all still running. As I also said in my post the Mercury HP525 engine is a great engine! At about 8-10K less per motor I think the Raylar HO525 S definitly deserves some consideration, don't you.
Listen & learn its a great way to expand your mind.

firstly, i want to thank everyone for their input.
i have decided to go with the 525EFI's and BravoXR drives.

raylar sure is a good option too. however, being located in Egypt the mercury seemed a more logical choice for support reasons.

Ray, if this is in response to my post I did say that the Raylar engines looked like a good option. I like the Raylars and the Raylar kits and it is good to see that the person responsible is here! Intouch1, you da man. You will not regret your decision. You can now proudly open your engine hatch and show off those beauties. Good luck with the new boat. When will you take delivery?

CC, Thanks. I hope the boat will be ready to ship by the end of July and should be ready to be watered a month later I guess....

Congratulations on a great choice in a boat and engines, you will be very happy with anything Sunsation does for you. Hope to have you as a future customer.
Good luck with the new boat, be safe and enjoy!

Nice Thread...........I enjoyed reading it!

Sherif, I think you made the right decision.... the 496HO are great motors but stepping up (And paying for 525's) gets you HiPo racing motors built with high end parts that will better withstand the abuse when running hot.........and you get the added benefit when running at more conservative speeds in the 70's at lower RPM's, better fuel ecomomy, and your not taxing the engines. (All on 87 octane pump gas........I don't think gas is an issue your part of the world though :laugher: :laugher:
Not to mention that they will look KILLER in you new SSR. Congrats!!!

525's Baby!!

Go with Merc 525's.
All forged internals plus full roller valve train.....they are stout.
I've got one in my 288 and never looked back once I made the decision.
What kind of numbers are you see with your combo?
