I would like to think my 24 Pantera is worth close to $20,000. Although it would be a tough sell I think. Very old (1979) . But the best boat I ever owned. Had many (16 baja, 202 chris craft stinger, 30 scarab,23 warlock, 24 baja, 25 checkmate convinsor) Its got plenty of motor, mesa 502, external steering, etc. I think most people dont know what it is around my way. I would not know about Panteras myself if it was not for Speedwake or Offshoreonly. There is way to much money put into my boat before I bought it. Luckly I got a great deal. And soon I'm going to put more money into this boat. ( new paint, interior-sit down seats, k-planes, custom windscreen, etc.) That will add up to over $50,000 between 2 owners in a boat thats worth less then half of that.

But to me this is the perfect boat. One engine (Less fuel, less parts to buy, less maintence) Only 24 ft. Can tow with almost any truck. But can run some pretty rough water for its size. Can tow to the boat ramp, store in my yard and use local gas stations for fuel.

Not me buddy. I'm about 25-30K to the good. With how tight things have been lately and these gas prices it been tempting to sell the Dominator, cash in and pay off almost everything except the mortgage with the equity.
I think you missed my point DS... unless you're saying your boat is worth less then 25-30K.... I'm asking how many have boats worth 50-60K that owe 60-70K etc,etc,etc....that'd be those new boat buyers in the last couple years ... course they'll never admit that ;)

I don't think the market value of some one's boat is a true indicator of their financial status. Everybody has different financial priorities.

Heck, look at the housing situation. Just because you are living there, doesn't mean you can afford it. I've known people over the years with more money than they know what to do with, but you couldn't tell by looking at them or their possesions.

I agree, but I think Donman does have a point. Most of the boats on here are fairly modest affordable by most kinda boats. Not the million dollar super cats and crazy stuff you might see on some other "offshore" boat forums.

Although I value my boat a 35k I haven't seen it selling very fast.

I am happy to say that I owe far less then what I could sell it for. In other words I am not upside down in it which is a nice feeling.

I do know people in that position who have financed 100% plus taxes and are as much as 100k upside down.
They might have big cashflow but not much equity in anything. Eventually these things catch up with them anyway. To each his own I guess.

What we unfortuantely face in Canada though is if you have a boat that's a few years old you paid a price based on the American dollar since they are all manufactured in the US. So now that the American dollar has dropped in as much as 40%, so has the value of our boats. So in all actuality to this thread, other than regular depreciation of time we also got hit on the dollar which drops us 2-3 positions on this poll.

Very true,,just like the ones you see in the fancy house with the big fancy car + huge truck + 100k boat who you think have big money until you find out its all 80-100% financed.

It doesn't suck that bad considering I am under 40K owed. Considering it isn't for sale I guess it doesn't matter much.
Well, I have to disagree a bit here with you!

Boats we are still selling are between 15k and 40k!

and then all of the boats that are 100 plus are still moving at normal pace!!

There is an azz for every seat if you have the patience to wait. My Camaro is a perfect example of this. It took all summer for the right buyer to come along but I got what I was asking.
I'm not selling anyways so the value is irrevelent.

I agree with that attitude .... Last fall as I was winterizing my boat ....I pulled the tie bar off the outdrives to pull them & was sad to see the slop in the gimble rings.... so I decided to due them before I put it away instead of waiting till spring.... so I have the boat at a friends shop and a customer of his comes in... sees it & asked if its for sale... Friend tells him I don;t know but explains why its there.... he grabs an outdrive .... shakes it and says... these can be tightened.. he shouldn't replace them.... so the guy calls with an offer... pretty good offer... I asked if he wanted me to do the Gimbels for that price... he said no... I thought about it & decided not to sell.... did the gimbels, bellows, shift cables... everythig... beautiful... like new... most of you know the cost of the parts w/o labor...so he calls this spring & offers me $2500 less then last fall  ...I asked why would I sell it for less after spending the money on the repairs... He said the Market value had dropped since then.... I said what you just said DS....

I'm not selling anyways so the value is irrevelent. ;)
