I'm curious too, I could see them helping keep the back of the boat hooked up in a sharp turn, but see no real benefit in a straight line.

Had lunch with Chris from sunsation today, then wayne stopped by with a new F4 and the owner, they were out doing some testing. They seem to be real thourough in thier testing, so I am sure they found some benefit to them, I guess its just not jumping out at me.

So..it was a 2 beer job eh?...I call total BS on that one..there is now way you can only have 2 beers while watching Mike install the fins..!!!Unless you meant 2 beers per fin..!! That would totally make sense...anyways SWEET!!! Can't wait till the RIPPER is in the water and On Plane!!
I can understand you calling me out on the carpet V as you've seen me crack some tins and pop some tops but I was busy snapping pics and chatting with my neighbors......... who were also watching Mike do the install. :D :D :D

If the weather is decent, which it looks to be I'll be burning gas sometime in the afternoon...hopefully you can come along for the inaugural run on Oneida.

Interesting. I have seen them on rocker plates where the plate is part of the running surface but never on K-planes. Did you run the boat without the stabalizers? I am curious as to what affects they have.
No.......just the origional 90 degree angled Fins. That's actually a good question though but I can only assume the new Gen-2 fins will improve performance and saftey.
If you've ever met or talked to Wayne Schaldenbrand you would have come to realize that the man is constantly looking for ways to squeeze more performance and add more value to their products without breaking the bank.

Those do look nice! I guess they are to help reduce chine walk(?). So Sunsation makes these? Will they sell them to the general public and what is the part# and price? Are those 280S K-Planes in the pictures? When you say the 1st generation really "hooked up", what do you mean? They look like a great idea! Let us know how you like the 2nd generation model. Thanks!
I'm not sure who makes them and wether or not they are available to the GP..........my suggestion is to give them a ring and ask someone in there tech or parts dept.
Yes...280S K-Planes

With a little bit of tab the bow came down fast and it felt like you were riding on rails......I had 280S's on my 29 Velocity single 496HO and there was a big difference in feel.....reaction time. (I need some wheel time to get used to the boat and figure out how she like to run)

I'll post my experience after my first run with the new Gen-2's

Next time I see or talk to them I'll ask

Wayne gave me a call a couple weeks ago to see how the new stabilizers worked out. I think he mentioned that the 1st style was creating too much stern lift. My boat ran flat with the 1st style, and now has more bow lift with the new style. The new style does look whole lot cooler. I haven't seen it, but the people I run with say that water shoots out from the holes and gives it a cool effect also. I also think I picked up a little speed. I guess from less drag.

Thanks for the reply. I noticed Latham has something similar on their tabs.

Don't know if this will help, but I have rode/drove a 32 Dominator and the tabs are a lot more touchy than on my 38 Scarab... BIG difference... A few times it even felt like the hull was lifting up on the tabs when they were down pretty far at WOT...

Really......We had the opposite experience today and we were runnin in 5+ footers at times......Oneida lake was rockin today due high southeast winds!!! We had a blast learning how to run this beast.
Our experience was that the boat needed very little tab to get it to plane out and run smooth on top of the cappers....about 1.5 to 2 clicks. There is some finesse in dialing in the right Drive position vs. tab position combination depending on conditions........I enjoyed the challenge!!

I would have to say that it would be hard for me to commment on the difference I felt between the two Tab Fin designs...I just don't have enought experience with either of them.
All I can say is that the boat ran sweet in not so freindly conditions!!!!

Here are a few pics....maybe Tackysack and Optimus can share a few they took..........

Well I would venture to say that if you pulled down the tabs really quick you could make things really hairy at speed. That hull is very reative to tab position I think. It felt very light in comparison to the bigger boats, cigs, AT's and Scarab. Just my $0.02

I definetely aggree with you there RS........this is why only a couple clicks down is all she needed to plane out....

Yes we had an outstanding ride considering the conditions!! We were crushing some pretty big waves at higher speeds at times with no issues.

Mike thank you very much for the ride and driving opportunity. It was definitely an experience!!!

Tack has all the pics that I'm sure he'll follow up with later :D

Your welcome Dan....thanks again for coming out with me!

I installed mine this week on the SS. Before you guys get to carried away with speculation they have nothing to do with chine walk, top speed, or stern lift. They are to improve handling in higher speed turns when having to make an evasive turn or you are one of those nuts that likes to go into hard turns. The new tab will ventilate more and less likely the boat will skip in a hard turn.
