At the end of last season I noticed a little oil in the driveshaft bellows. Now as the year has gone by I pulled my boat from the lake to go to the shore and checked my gear oil for water. No water to be found. However, in my bildge there was a little gear oil. I probably added 1/3 of a quart over this season. I am assuming it could be where the shaft enters the outdrive.

Has Anyone had a similar situation?

Is this a pain to change over the winter?

Thanks in advance

There is a seal and an oring on the input shaft. To replace them you would need a couple special tools, particularly an in-lb torque wrench. Not that hard of a job but a little tricky on the first attempt. You should also plan to replace the 2 large bearings on the input gear which are pressed on. I buy them on ebay for 15-$20 each. Merc wants like $300 each

I figured relatively simple. I'm ok with figuring things out. I'm sure the merc service manual will help me along. At least this will give me something to do in the off season! Thanks B.T.
