Ok I'm sure this has been a thread before but I'm asking for some honesty here...what has been the worst 'oops' (or 'oh chit') that YOU (or someone close to you) have committed so far?

Was having a great day today when I woke up on my day off to find perfect weather and a cooperative Ohio River, and it got even better when I learned that all the service work being done to my boat was complete and there was nothing wrong with it.....when....I promptly hooked her up to pull her out of the mechanic's lot without tightening the *&$%#ing ball hitch thingy on the trailer.

Start driving and hear a clunk and naturally hit the brakes. Look in my rear view mirror to see in slow motion the pointy end of my boat crashing through the window and f-ing up the tailgate of my poor Jeep. Wasn't such a good day anymore after that. It really sucks when you have nobody to blame for stupidity but yourself :angry1:

Still made it out on the water though :) Had nothing to lose right?

Needmoreboat,
I did the same thing a few weeks ago going out for a lunch run with a buddy. He was helping me hitch up and I guess I figured he did it and he figured I did it...well neither of us did it.
Luckily I had enough tongue weight that I made it the 10 miles to the ramp. When I got out to start to unhooking stuff at the ramp I almost $hit  .
I quietly latched the coupler and didn't say a thing ;)

Towed a buddies boat about an hour into Canada. When I hooked up it was for the first time that year so I assumed that the boat was actually attached to the trailer. Well after driving 80 plus down the Queen Elizabeth we arrived to the campground. Throughout the park they had speed bumps to control traffic. As I slowly went over the last bump I the boat slid off the back of the trailer. I damn near shitz my pants. Fortunately other than a few scratches no damage was done. I just kept thinking what would have happened if that sucker rolled off as I was doing 80 down a four lane highway.

I had two good ones last year. Put the trailer and boat in the water without the plug in! 1st time in 30yrs of boating! Started talking to another boater...Then....She just would not slide off the trailer....Then I remembered!...It took longer than I thought it for that little hole to stop spraying water. A good bilge cleaning was had that day. The best part, no one saw me do it except my wife. Another weekend, I tried motoring off with my prop cover on. Didn't take long for the stainless prop to slice and dice it! I had only paid $10 vs. $45 for it so we had a good laugh. I love rookie boaters who fly around with their fenders/bumpers still hanging out while under way, Mike.

Done that!!!!

Luckily after the first clunk, it hadnt come off, and I checked it, DOH!!!!!!

A few months back, I got stuck out in a wicked storm, Finally got back to the ramp, and it was packed with everyone tryin to get outta the water. I pulled the boat up, ran up to the truck, pulled out, and I guess I forgot the trailer was back there, because I cut the truck too soon, and caught my trailer fender on the front bumper of an F-250. Who would have thought that an aluminum fender would bend a steel bumper out like that, it was stickin stright out!!!. Well, we found the guy, got the estimate, and paid the $900 to get it fixed. oops

Reminds me of a story I once heard. Except the boat was going backwards off the back of the trailer and onto the back lawn. &#!@ING roller trailer, god I hate that thing.

Put my brothers boat in about three weeks ago. It's only an 18ft chaparrel with a 60 horse outboard. We unhooke the winch to pick up the front end because roller was trying to peal the keel guard off.

Got that fixed so I climbed in the truck to put him in. Little did I know that he did not re-attach the winch.

Started down the ramp, which is really steep, when I saw the nose of the boat doin a wheely, Stopped for a moment, the boat started to slide off the trailer. Well, at that moment I figure too late to pull up, she's going to land on the ramp if I do that. So I gassed it in reverse and hit the brake. The boat, my brother and my son shoot into the harbor like being fired from a cannon. Looked in the mirror, and yelled, "Your in, Pick me up at the gas dock!" :laugher: :laugher:

Great stories... I'm sorry, but I loved reading all of them - especially since no one was hurt during any of these OOPSes - except maybe some damaged pride.

Keep the stories coming! :D

Several years ago we decided to take the boat out one warm day in Feburary. We did all the normal stuff with no problems, but when we got about a mile or so from the dock, I looked in the ski well and saw it was filling up with water. I quickly made my way back to the dock, threw someone my keys to back my trailer in and after getting the boat on the trailer, it hit me that I had winterized the boat and had forgotten to put the petcocks back in the block.
I did not say a word to the guy that helped me get the boat out and quickly drove home. On the way I told my wife what I had done and we both got a big laugh from it. :laugher:
