I got one

Hi all. Im new to the forum here and would just like to say hi. I have a 1989 Liberator 241, 460 w/SEI 116. No more OMC for me! 300 original hours. I bought it from the original owner in 09. It looks like a time capsul from 89. I love my boat and am very glad to see all of the interest in these boats!

Welcome to the board! It has been pretty quiet around here lately, but there is a wealth of Liberator information. Your boat looks great. I have an '86 241 w/ twin 350's. They are fun boats to drive!

Guys -- anyone know who makes a non rubber hubbed prop for the OMC drive?

I guess to elaborate -- you guys with go fast/high power Libby's, what props are you running? I called Michigan Wheel to inquire about a 23" Ballistic (I liked the 21" on the boat in stock form) but they said at my power level I should have a solid hub....don't really know what is out there for the OMC.

Do I need solid? All of the props I have or had were rubber hubs (not interchangeable) and they include 14.5x20 Raker, 14 3/8x21 Ballistic, 14.5x22 Raker and 14.25x24 Turbo....

I would think with all the HP's your making that you are well into costom prop territory. I have a labbed 4 blade hydromotive 23P on mine. No rubber of course. I have some cheap props to run when I know I'll be in shallow water though. Let me know if you need any prop shafts for your boat as I have 2 of them that are cryoed. You would probly need at least a 4 blade 26 or higher to run on your boat I bet. Hydromotive is great at figuring that out for you at a cost though. AKA, there stuff's not cheap. Expect to pay 600-800 for the prop and another 500 to modify it.

I won't need anything that crazy a 23p gets me to 70 at 5200rpm with my drive (1.43 ratio) I was right around 12% slip with the stock prop. This is not a fast hull so if I push near that, I'll be happy. Funny thing is the boat came with that stupid 24" Turbo that I may actually try. The stock prop is a 14.5x20 Raker, and that was just under 62mph on GPS.

Since you are new to the site I'll post a few links I've posted in the past, I'm not trying to insult you if you already know the info -- the Four winns link is awesome though check it out!

Prop Calculator:
http://www.rbbi.com/folders/prop/propcalc.htm

Four Winns Past Products:
http://www.fourwinnsmarketing.com/ -- then go to past products link, there is not much pre-90' for specs, but 88 is there. Manuals brochures etc. should all be there for you, kinda neat that's all.

EDIT: And yes -- a custom prop may be in order, I've already talked to BBlades (http://www.bblades.com/)looking like about $800 to modify and lab a prop depending on what gets me close.

And the boat already had a 502 in it stock -- so it's not like I jumped from a 350 all the way to a 502, we just warmed it up :)

>>>>>Rschap1.....I am still using the OMC hydrolics and rams. I dont see any way to adjust them short of putting Merc stuff on there.
You must have a sender like the first pic that runs your gage and sets the stop height. Maybe some adjustment there...? I have never had to screw around with the OMCs that I had.
I have always had Mercs like the second pic. I was thinking more along those lines when I commented earlier. Those are right at the pivot points and one sends to the gage, the other operates the limits.

I found this page that had a schematic, looks like it shows the sender...

3rd pic...not sure if you are already up on this, probably since you just swapped outdrives, so srry if redundant for ya. But...maybe you can either adjust the sender, it's lever, or whatever stop it rides against. Maybe add a set screw and lock nut somewhere ... ? Sorry just guessing. Can you get a pic of the area where the sender is/pivot point of the outdrive. Maybe able to come up with better (less hair brained) ideas:)

Good call on that. I cant look at anything on my boat till April. :( Indoor storage for the winter far away. I am thinking that the Cobra rams are just stuck out further to achieve full down. I mean, the merc drive holes were the rams atatch, seen further back than the OMC. It does kind of bother me a little, because if I find myself in a situation where I beach my boat, the drive will hit bottom way before the stearn will. I wouldnt want to find out the durability of the gimble like that.

31st Lap, I remember bidding on that one on ebay.Up in New York wasn't it? Low hours and clean as a pin. Saw it in Port Clinton last fall and was wondering about outdrive? Loved the colors, it matches my motorhome.
Bought my first lib last year in Michigan @ Lake St. Clair. 88 241 w/460. Haven't had any troubles from my Outdrive yet, but I have a couple old timers here in Dayton that still know how to work on them.:laugher: Had a new trailer made @ Load Master Trailers.
Still looking for a F350 to pull it around, the Excursion doesn't like it much with the 5.4.Took it to Norris and Cumberland this year and loved it, they are great boats.

How's your winter project coming along Steve?
