I bought my first boat last year - a 1991 2450 Arriva. These typically came with 454 but some came with the smaller 350 magnum rated @ 280hp (which is what I have).

Looking at other Arriva with 454 motors, most owners claim they do 65mph. My top speed is 41mph if I'm the only one in the boat - with a few passengers I top out at 37mph @ 4500rpm. Earlier this year I installed Corsa captains calls exhaust/diverters to allow thru-exhaust vs out the leg. I find no difference when I flick the switch (except for the sound of course). Though when I flick the switch and go straight out, I do not gain any speed.

I know the boat is big (24.5') and heavy for a 350 magnum, but is 40mph all I can expect without major upgrades? Is a 454 really that much faster (+25mph).

Maybe the 350 is the better choice now with the cost fo gas - afterall would a 454 not be double consumption over a 350; or would they really not be that different when both are wide open?

Thanks

I dont know about a stock 454 running 65 in that boat
unless they have 454Mags ,
57-60 would be more like it ,
even so your 280/350 should be good for 50-55mph.
What prop are you running?
How does the boat respond to trimming it up?

I would think 45 mph, 50 with a bbc. I think you're right on speed wise. That boat has probably gained weight, wet flotation etc. since it was new.

I have an 89 2450 with a 425hp roller 454 that runs a hair over 70 with a 3 blade mirage prop 23p.

2450's are kinda heavy, if you are running around the lake with a 250 or 300 horse engine, that could be par for the course. I would have it looked at to make sure you are not losing anything hp wise in slip.
