Was recently on boattrader online checking out the 27-29' boats and noticed how many 272-275 bajas are for sale some really cheap w/ fresh power and cool graphics , was just curious to as why? Do they not handle chop , are they slow are the hulls cracking ? Was jjust curuios we will be in the market to upgrade here shortly and my wife came over to look at the screen and said she like this particalar 272 boss w/ faring 502 w/ 200 hrs belive it was a 98 for $29,995. I own a sunsation was planning on making my next boat a sunsation a warlock but $$ is tight these days for most of us , just wanting a little input so i have some amo for the wife , we do boat in some choppy chit here and there

Baja's are not the fastest hulls out there ( but they aren't the most expensive either.... I had a 1998 232 & I can't say ANYTHING bad about the boat :)

There are a lot of people that look down upon Baja owners But we ALL can't afford the custom built expensive boats (OL,MTI's, Skaters,etc.)...... :(

Bang for the buck I would have to say that Baja builds a pretty D@M good boat. :D

I've read up on these boats quite a bit on various forums and I think the general consensus is that people are very happy with them and often are sad they gave up their 27x Baja.

It seems most Baja owners recommend going for the 25 Outlaw though, since on the Performance the additional length is mostly in the integrated swim platform. I think if you're looking for a windshield boat it's an excellent option in that size range. I see plenty of 27x's on the chain and they seem to handle the water fine.

I rode in a 272 in the ocean. It seemed OK, but it kept landing to the port side. I think some k-planes (and a better driver) would of solved that problem.

You have an Agressor now? The diff in length is only about 2'. I would say that the 272 will have a bigger look and feel but not a huge ride difference. A little more cockpit (wider) space.

I have never been in a 272, But have driven a 302 with twins, 260 model with single and my buddy chris's 232.

Only con I see, Is the back sunhatch stiching coming loose on quite a few of these models. Where the wave was in the graphic on the sun pad.

But as for ride and constructability of the boats. I was pleased with them. I really like how comfortable the bolsters are sitting or standing.

The 232 is a great riding boat for its size, but the extra few feet in the bow would be nice to have.like many other boats though!

the 260 had a 330 and had to run the r's high to keep a good cruise speed if running with others

the 290/302 (I believe they were the same hull, or similar) was a nice boat to run with a lot of room in it.

I kick myself in the azz for not buying a 96 with twin bb's for 23k from a friend who needed out of it. !

Either way you you go. I think you will Be happy-because your boating!!!

And as for anyone who decides to have a generalized pompass remark about the so called "B brand" Shouldnt be on this board anyways.

Best of luck to you pete, I hope everything works out for you

The 272's are pretty good boats from what I have seen .I have a couple of friends that have had them with the Boss package and they never had any complaints about the boats .I looked at several before I decided to buy a new outlaw

Several friends have them. Very nice boats. The Outlaws can handle the rough well because of the 24* bottom.
One of my buddies just bought the 442 a few months ago with triple 575's, 2 stereo systems with surround sound, gen, A/C and heat, leather interior, corian counters. Oh my god!
Talk about a plush cruise liner. And suppose to run upper 80's too. Never did see that because it was always loaded with people.

:laugher:

Was just curious , thanks all keep them coming , the old owners of my boat traded up to a 25 outlaw, after owning the sunny for only 1 season saying the boat was too narrow only 7'3" beam , boat is actually 23' 7" long also, but handles like a bigger boat ! Our biggest complaint is that we need something w/ more cockpit space alittle bigger cabin would be nice too W/our 3 kids its tight and we bought the boat for a family activity! my oldest dislikes going because he feels claustrphobic he just now admits  , i know B brands get knocked on , i'm not out there to impress people by how much $$ i spent on a boat , our boat clubs new president has a 302 baja w/ twin 502's , nice boat does 73 mph , nice cabin, have the rest of the winter to ponder , have to sell mine first and have to buy another house first , if i could find a nice used 96-98 288 for like $30-38 gs would be sweet! We have way to much sunsation clothing to switch brands , we are not ruling baja out of our search. I have always like the outlaw series , almost bought a 24 before the purchase of the sunny they are getting big $$ for the 25 outlaws it seems.

Hey Trim, I've been doing some tire kicking in the 27 to 29 foot range too. And have also noticed some Baja 27's for sale at reasonable prices. We're looking for a boat with single BB that will handle rough stuff better than our Nova. Do the 27x Baja's have a 24* dead rise? What's the length with out the swim platform?

every time i read threads its the same thing people want a big cabin and a rough riding hull.... powerquest
27 it has one of the widest beams in the offshores
and a good rough water boat this one has a 502 mag
w/390 hours if your interested and i will sell way cheaper than any other similar powerquest on the net
it runs 68 mph on the speedo 70 in about a 2 ft chop

I swear when you do browse on boattrader online in the 27-29' section theres at least #3 272/275 per page , thought that was fishy

I put about 350 hours on our 25 in the last few years and love the boat. It appears to be a few mph faster than the 272 with the same power, but if you want a windshield this is not the the boat for you. The back seat is also pretty close to the bolsters on the 25 as well.

Over all the boat handles the chop pretty good - I'm the same as you and wanted the most bang for the buck. I don't think you can beat a Baja for that.

I've rode/driven the 272 and just like the feel of the 25 - it's all personal preference.

You should be able to find a used 272 in the 30's with a 502

BAJA

I owned and sold my 1997 Baja 232 with a Big Block.. You get what ya pay for my boat and other baja's I drove and have seen have Interior Issues with the rear seat and sun pads, Lotta Back weight so Ruff water Sucked...
I logged 154 hours in 2 seasons on a Lake...

I am sure a 272 will ride way better then a 232 But I think Formula, Sunsation, Fountain and others are made a little Nicer Interior and Paint Wise... My 2 cents

We've only had our 272 for a couple of months, but we're very happy with it. It's got a completely stock 502MAG and runs 64MPH (GPS) consistently.
We looked at many boats mfg's and ended up with Baja because of the value. The 25 Outlaw is nice, but has noticably little less cockpit room. The cuddys are about the same.
