First 7,700, now 6,900. And, is that with small blocks or big blocks? I'm trying to figure out the weight of my boat with 496's. I'll probably just weigh it this summer at the local sand pit. I emailed Baja and they sent me the outdated 7,700 web page. They could have at least sent me the current 6,900 web page.

Hey Joe: When you made the trip with your Dad on his boat, what kind of boat, and how long to what part of Florida???

Jake
In 1999, Dad bought a 1997 Maxum 46 SCB. (Sport yacht w/ fly bridge). I can't find a pic. Anyway, he bought the boat in VA and brought it to Blains Bay in Lathem where he kept it for the summer. We had some work to do on it as it had some minor cosmetic stuff (radar arch, gel, etc). We worked on it for the summer and it really came out great. It has twin Cummings for power. We headed South in the late summer. We had a great trip. We did not run at night, so it did take a bit longer. Also, we had to park the boat in NC and drive home for a week as hurricane Floyd decided to come thru  It worked out well, and we drove back down and finished the trip to Hollywood, FL. We ran outside a ways in SC as the inter-coastal was not accessible due to damage and a sunken boat. All in all I'd say the trip took about three weeks. I think it was around 1,200 miles. We took our time and made sure to stop at some gin mills along the way :D My Dad is a great guy. He'll be 70 this December and he does not miss a beat. In fact, him and my Mom are sitting in Islamordia (Holiday Isle) as we speak  What a lucky dog. He has worked his whole life to be able to do this so all the power to him...

Are you thinking of going touring Jake? I'll tell you, what a great experience. I've heard of folks who travel for months at a time. It's great.

Thanks for the info Joe. :)

Thinking of liquidating some of the toys, assets, and such. As much as we like the Sea Ray, I think it`s too small to do what we would like to. So I`m thinking of going to something 42 to 46 ft. range. Definitely going to be a Sedan, or Convertable, much more living space than in a cruiser. Not going to look at any of the big names. Age doesn`t matter. Overall condition, and the previous owners attention to maintainence big factor.
Just going to take our time, cruise the waters, and probably make FT. Meyers our winter port. Have friends down there.
I`m looking hard at Silverton. Lot of boat for the $$$$$$$

Sac,
The weight of the 33 is correct at 7,500lbs. (496's) The reason the 30OL is a tad heavier because of the full boat liner system, however I feel the extra weight provides a better and / or more solid ride. Dont get me wrong the 33 is a super boat, but I had a 33 and a 30 next to eachother at a boat show and the 30 looked bigger and morphed the 33. Also the extra weight is made up in the 30OL by the wind tunnel tested hull.

I would like to see and hear how close a 33 and a 30 would run together with identical power.

All right Blake your on!

I believe we have identical power and my boat is still stock except for shore power/battery charger that I added and a few other small items.

I'm ready to run as long as it's in clean water! :D

Give me a break! No way does the 30 ride better or more solid than a 33. At full speed with no tabs the 33 doesn't chine walk or get squirrely. As far as size goes since when does 30'1" look bigger or "morph" a boat that is 32'9'??  I know you like your boat but like I said give me a break. :laugher: :laugher:

When the 30'1" is 6" taller?
I'm not sure exactly, but the 30 is taller, and bulkier at the hips.
Is that correct TeamBajaMarine.com

This is not exactly a PERFECT example, because of angle, point of view, and zoom level. Nonetheless, I have captured 2 boats, with similar camera angles, and resized the images to show appropriate length. The top boat is 37 feet, the bottom boat is 38 feet. Also, these are both boats with consierable head room, etc.
I think the 37 TOWERS over the 38. and if you had the opportunity as I did to see them side-by-side, you would really see it.
The 37 is slightly taller, but it's mainly about shape.
Take for example, the 90's Camaro, and the 80's Camaro. If you look at the two, in a picture, separately, you would swear that the newer Camaro is smaller. In actuallity, the newer Camaro is taller, longer and wider than the older Camaro.
You can also see this by comparing a 66 Chevelle and a 69 Chevelle. The 69 looks smaller, but it's actually quite a considerable amount bigger.
But that's all appearance. What TeamBajaMarine.com is referring to is the girth, the actual size, not the LOA.

But I see what your saying too. It's hard to believe that a 30 would perform better than a 33. I guess I would have to see it for myself to believe it.

Garshev,
Dont get so upset, I voiced an opinon on the thought that the 30OL might be a better ride due to the fact of the weight and liner construction., this is a unconfirmed opinion. Like I said previously, I had both boats sitting on the same platforms at a boat show, right next to eachother and the 30 was higher and appeared wider, hence BIGGER than the 33, and looking at them side by side, nose to nose, the 30 was very close in length, 3 feet is not all that much.

As Icebreaker put it, its all in appearance and I am not saying my boat is any better than a 33, but I would love to compare the ride one day.

And I just found the photo I was refering to, the 30OL is in the center of the screen and the 33 is off to the left. Keep in mind both boats are on the exact same platforms and I had a discussion about this with the Baja rep while we were talking about this same topic of the 30OL "morphing" in size over the 33.

OK Blake, how do you know that the 33's weight is based off the 496 Mag? Base engines are 6.2's like the 30. Shouldn't the assumption then be that the weight listed is with the standard engine package?

JMO, but I think the 33 rides better. I've been in both. To me the 33 feels larger and rides larger due in part to the added length. But like I said, it's only my opinion. Others may disagree. :)

The photo below is that of a 2004 29 Outlaw SSE(right) and 2004 30 Outlaw(left). As you can see by the pictures, they are both on triple axle trailers and they appear to be within inches of each others height.

I can't imagine the 33 being that much different from the 29. I think with the taller deck and more muscular look, it(30 Outlaw) appears larger than it really is. ;)

I never compared the 30 to the 29. As far as the weight issue, Baja has a hard time keeping things in print correct. I cant answer why the 33OL weight is based on 496's, wheras the 30OL weight is based on 6.2L's.

If you can find an old 2004 catalog that has the 30OL specs and options, you will find a ton of mistakes and things left out in the standard options list.

You are always breaking my balls. :unhappy1: You can certainly call Baja yourself and ask them. I only provided the info and called them because I needed it direct for the company who built my boat lift. So I trust what they told me and reported it back here and on TBM.

My point being that I figured Baja would base the weight off base engine package rather than an option.

Oh, and take a ride in a 33 when you get a chance and I'm fairly certain ... well not really ... that you will agree or agree to disagree the 33 has a nicer ride.
