Read this thread, Julies Went 55-58 with trip 225's, and she owns a Prop Shop, so I have to believe it was set up right.

He says 68 with the trip 2.4's, but shows EFI 2.5's in the pic???

Older outboards are not more fuel efficient than an I/O, think about it, they turn more RPM, gotta use more fuel, Well, a 2.4 or 2.5 is gonna burn some fuel, then multiply by 3!!!! and if you want to do better than 60, your throttles are gonna be in the dash, lookin' for more constantly, Believe me, I tried to get the $$$ together for julies boat, a great Solid riding Family offshore boat, but a speed demon, it is NOT!!!!!

I think its a super cool boat! wouldnt that be a cool cockpit for an I/O boat
If outboards are you thing its an excellant ride. But if outboards are not your thing...this is definately one to run from.

It is a tough tough sell to sell a boat this big with outbaords thats not a cat. Especially a boat that is most common with I/O's.

Is it a cool 17k boat...sure, but if your not an outboard guy, know how to work on an outboard, or need an outboard...this may not be the best way to get a 30 plus footer....02

Two stroke motors aren't nearly as fuel efficient as four strokes, although the newer one's are coming close. Why do you think the companies are spending so much on developing four stroke outboards (other than the fact the two strokes will be outlawed soon)? I had a Formula with twin 350's that didn't burn much more than my 18 foot fishboat with a single 175, not to mention you have to buy oil for the two stroke.

In my opinion, outboards are much more reliable than I/O's. I had my last one for thirteen years and only replaced a trim pump. It still ran perfectly when I repowered. If you happen to puke one, they are much easier to swap out.

Something to keep in mind:
2 stokes make far more power and weigh less (and are smaller) compared to an equal displacement 4 stroke. Also more simplistic and cheaper to manufacture. The new ones (like the Optimax's) are nearly smoke free and use about 45% less fuel... hard to beat them. Rebuilds are $2000-4500. When you price OB's to i/o's the OB's really start to shine.

I definitely know the feeling! Just bought a new house in November and a new truck a few months previous to that and then the boat right after that. I'm not even allowed to go to the grocery store by myself anymore! Wife has to approve every purchase. :D I guess I'm a bit of an impulse buyer. :)

I have twin 200hp 2.5 liter 1992' carbed mercs on my donzi which weighs about 10,000 pounds. Top speed is about 45 mph and each motor is guzzling 35 gph at 5300 rpm. At cruise - 4200 rpm it gets about 1 mpg and with a 300 gllon tank she goes to the bahamas, fishes, dives, crusises and comes back on one tank. Granted she is underpowered by todays standards and 2 gallons to the mile for a 33 footer with carbs is pretty thirsty. New 250 HP 4-stroke outboards or new 2strokes will get twice the mileage but will set you back $15k EACH. Tripples and your talking $45k in motors...that's a LOT of gas. My 2 cents.
