So...let me throw this out....I have a gen VI 454 Mag MPI. (2001). If this mill takes a dump, what would have to be done to replace with a502. Looks to me like the heads, exhaust, all the bolt ons are the same. So would a simple ECU flash be all that is necessary?

Just askin'....or better yet, what would you gurus consider replacing the mag with? Would like to stay EFI if possible, just want to add a few ponies to her.

I don't know what/if anything would need to be done with the ECU, but as far as the motor it's as simple as;
disconnect old motor
lift out
lift new motor in
bolt down.

I was faced with same dilemma when my 454 went south. I ended up saving the money (not upgrading to 502 shortblock) and used it to stroke my 454 into a 496 with a 177 blower. All forged internals, custom blower cam and blower pistons, yielding 600-650 hp.

Correct.

You may have to change the computer to compensate for the different cam

Is that a oil temp or a oil presser gage you have there above your oil filter?

Oil pressure, Its hard on the gauge though. Last one the vibration from the motor made tost out of it.
