Not any more.
8k... what size kind of outboard you running ? What was the boats reaction upon breakage ? Did it pull hard one way ? I just experienced my first blowout going 83 mph. First I thought I hit something that spun me sidewise, good thing there was no one near me took a little while to regroup on that one.

Like I've been told "You'll never know where the line is till you cross it !"

Keep crank'n those egg beaters !
8k? And I hope your not wondering why :laugher:

My brother popped two last summer, both right after he crossed 8k.

2.5 260's right?

Why aren't you propped to 72-7500?

Sticking the piston AND breaking the crankshaft, pretty impressive.
They are top pinned pistons with digital A48 Boxes, I could spin them to 10k, but that would not be wise. Its set up to do 85mph (class 4) but we were running down stream in St Clair so I think the GPS said 88mph or so when she let go.

Small prop + Hi rpm’s = Better corner speed.

And Yes It pulled pretty hard to the left

Up-Rok.
The crank broke at the spot of a guaranteed repair, the company said they would replace the crank but it looks like I'm S.O.L. on the other parts that were damaged.

8000-8300rpm is mnore than safe for these motors, Hell I know a couple teams that spin them at 8500-8750rpm.
That sucks, we wont be there either broke some valve springs in the fountain testing today

What sucks is you miss 1 and you’re automatically eliminated from 3.

I'm in the same boat (so to speak) why beat your boat, spend a couple grand and not even be eligible to a plastic trophy.

it's chatch 22

why is this ???

because of the time it takes to repair? or is it some kind of rule ?

Inquiring minds want to know :)
To qualify for the Geico Triple Crown you need to race all three rounds

Ocean City, MD
Patchogue, NY
Point Pleasant, NJ

You miss one round you’re eliminated from collecting any of the purses. So if a boat/team misses any one of those three rounds and even if they win the other two you don’t get any of the purse or even a trophy.
Rick I know they CAN spin that fast, its just that they don't last a long time doing it :D

I'm sure you know, but guys over on scream and fly and in the drag racing circuits will spin them up to 10k

I try to keep my motor under 7k, but its a "big block"

So did the piston stick and it broke or are all the rings and pistons good?

Speaking of top pinning the piston rings where did you get yours done? My brother keeps sticking the rings into the exhaust port on his motor (Bottom cylinder, passenger side I think) and wants to top pin his this time. But its $$$$

That sucks man, espescially so early into the season.
sorry to hear... I am picturing the sound now!
SOrry your broke, but this was some interesting reading!!!

Hey Rick,

I know we spoke about OPA vs SBI last year, and your concern was entry fees, and prize $$$, do ya see where I was coming from now, spend $800 in fuel to get to OC, and if ya dont make all 3 too bad, or $800 entry fee to stay in south Florida, and if ya win, roll your winnings into the next race, its all the same to me :D
ouch- I was runnin off shore in my twin 200 hp 2 stroke donzi and the rubber hub inside my prop let go....rpms went through the roof for a few seconds and then the piston went through the side of the block....crunch!
