Anyone have any Experience with ACE Boat Insurance Company?

I have had our boat with a Company Called Royal insurance, through NBOAT (www.nboa.com) for the last two years. The rate was so much lower than BOATUS (About a 1/3), and the coverage was comparable from all I could tell. Its time to renew, and I got a letter from NBOAT saying the Royal was sold to another company, and they are no longer insuring small boats. The next best quote NBOAT could provide is 70% higher than my current rate, though still significantly less than I’ve found for similar coverage from BOATUS, Progressive and others.

The New company (should I accept the quote) is ACE Small Boat insurance. I hadn’t heard or them, and a quick google search pulled up these links of interest…

Has anyone had any experience with this company, good or bad? Trying to put in a little research, but time is of the essence, I should have opened the renewal letter sooner! Thanx for any info anyone can provide…

So far I have not been impressed with them. I have only been with them for a few months and they don't seem to have any kind of a handle on the billing. They had information wrong on the first policy (policy date) so they said they would correct and send new bill, but for me to still send payment. No problem, so I sent check only to get new policy with different billing info, but I had already sent payment. I call and said they would staighten out. Ok, few days later get another corrected bill, but yet again different info and they now don't show any payment applied. Call again and said they would take care of. Ok. I get yet another bill in mail very next day from previous policy number (they had to make a new policy number for corrections) and this has different payment figures, but still no record of my payment. (Check has cleared along time ago). Call again and said they will take care of. OK. I have received 5 or 6 bills from them and none of them are the same. I since have not heard from them and I only hope that my boat is covered. I don't know which policy number is the correct anymore and when I have to pay. I hope if a claim is necessary they are more organized than what they have shown me. I am starting to worry :confused1 I was told they were short staffed and this was causing a problem. I know my $3,100 is only peanuts to them, but I hope they are back on track soon.

Sy Goldberg set up my policy with ACE. I'm sure Sy would have nothing to do with them if they were incompetent.

Kurt.

Sy set me up as well and this is in no way due to his actions. Everything went extremely smooth with Sy and his office. It is ACE that has been making it very difficult to work with. I just want to know that it is covered properly and get my billing straight.

ACE INSURANCE

ACE is the largest boat insurance company in the UNITED STATES and is the succesor to CIGNA yacht insurance(FOUNDED 1792).I would not worry about the claim situation as they paid both the claim on the TITANIC and the FOUNTAIN that ended up in a tree a few months ago.I know that there have been a few billing problems due to two factors. One reason is that a lot of boat insurance carriers left the industry around the same time frame and that ACE is picking up much of this business in both standard boats and high performance.I think I am reason number two,I am fortunate enough to be 1 one 2 agents in the country to be able to have direct access to their best high performance insurance program and as a result I am placing about 40 boats a week with them.I know that they could not have anticipated these events and were overwhelmed with new business.I would not hesitate to do business with them as everything has been taken care of as they adapt to this situation.

what other options do you have?

If you've got time to make a decision, then I'd do some price shopping.

Thanks everyone,

For your input. I have been shopping around a bit, and there only seem to be a few insurance companies that really know Marine insurance. BOATUS is the next closest comparable quote, though they are still almost $200 higher, they do have a $500,000 fuel spill liability, verses ACE’s policy’s $300,000. Personal effects coverage is higher with ACE as well, all for the same insured value and deductibles. Maybe this was a good thing. I hate to shell out more money, but I am starting to question the Insurance I have had, though since I never had a claim, I guess I will never know (like it that way personally). Sy, I’m going to go ahead with ACE, I’ll have to ask specifically if the policy is (P&I) PROTECTION & INDEMNITY. Thanks again for everyone’s input.
