What I need all for a gen 6 502 big block
flywheel
balancer
windage tray
timing cover

Well thru freinds donating some parts and some ebay
buys tommorow I am off to the machine shop to make this
bunch of parts an actual engine. I started with a gen 6 502
that needs to be bored and the crank turned , Doug
(Boatally Insane) gave me a complete set of like new .30 over
J&E forged pistons so that takes care of that!
I dont know yet if I will reuse the stock Merc roller cam or get
something else. being broke its not like I have a lot of
options but maybe something will pop up.
.The heads are big oval ports that were already redone and
ready to go with Crane springs and 1.8 roller rockers but I
want to replace the exhaust valves with a set of Inconels
which I also have. With the J&Es they tell me it should give
me around 9.5-1 compression which is a bit high for
me but Ill have to deal with it. The intake is a Dart single
plane for the oval ports. Thanks to some info from Donnie
(Donman) I have a call into a GM parts dealer for a takeout
ZZ502 cam for $50 , Ill know in a day or two if that pans out
otherwise its the stock cam.
Im taking the parts I have so far tommorow to the same
guy that redid Boatally Insanes motor .
However it turns out it should be better than my currently dead 454,
now you can all start taking bets how long the Alpha will last.
LOL:D

Call GMPP (GM Performance Parts) dealers that also build motors. Like Scoggin Dickey at www.sdpc2000.com , Pace Chevrolet, Gilbert Chevrolet, and etc, etc. since many builds are started on a shortblock, longblock, and sometimes complete engines. They'll sell the parts not used as take-offs.

Most all GMPP dealers have web sites.

Here's a list I found from Gilbert. Good luck going thru whole thing...better to call.

So, just look up the dealers on the web, and then call them. Will make it easier for them if you already have part #'s in hand.

thanks, I already have a call in to Scoggin Dickey for a ZZ502 cam, Donman says he bought one for $50 from them. I didnt know they sold the little stuff too. If its as cheap as the cam it may just save my boating year!

Is that carb ready for this motor ?

Speaking of which - your Alpha is, well, count it toast. :dead: :laugher: You may seriously want to limit your throttle by using a throttle stop. IE: positive stop on either carb linkage or throttle lever that will not let you go over a certain point.

Your motor may/probably will have over 550ft/lbs torque.

Alpha's can live with higher hp with small blocks because of lower low speed torque. Very opposite of your deal.

Then again, you know Boatally Insane and I know he has a way of rubbing off on people. :laugher:

Carb is supposed to be off a stock carbed 502 Merc so
if I stay with stock merc cam should be okay.

I ran 200+ hours with the 454 including a
bunch of poker runs.. I dont beat on it from a dead stop
ever, and I usually "roll" into the throttle and I dont jump waves.
Being money poor means Im pretty
easy on my stuff since I cant afford to fix much.
I think it will last a run or two..
:p:

As guys, we are naturally good at fixing things.
Houses, cars, computers, garbage disposals,
washers/dryers, etc. etc.
The one thing we can't fix,
is a woman that's broken
