are the insurance companies ruling what we buy?

I have a cat and the insurance went from 1600 for six months to 4000 for six months with a six month lay up. If this keeps up the freeking insurance companies will dictate what we can buy, and how fast we can go. Unless you run uninsured which is not SMART. They are also raising the premiums on v hulls but not as fast. Progressive insurance tells you on-line how much hp you can have in what boat, or they do not insure it. Are they having that many high speed claims?
I will not lie and tell them that this motor makes 450 hp.

Exactly - at least the auto co's back then under rated the hp numbers!

Let's face it....it's an expensive sport. My insurance is a small fraction of what I pay for yearly dry storage. My only option as I have no room to store it at my house.

But it's so worth it!

I learned that you can`t have an old boat either. 20 years old is the max that most companys will insure. I finally got my 21 year old boat insured, but I sometimes think I`m paying insurance on a Cat......

Insurance comnpanies are in business to make a buck. Plain & simple. Cats are made to do one thing: GO FAST. Doesn't make any difference if the driver has a lot of experience, and no claims. Cats are designed to go fast. And to make matters worse, if it's not suppose to go fast, then why are most packing so much HP? More speed can result in bigger claims, if there is an oophs.

It simple risk assessment. Plus factor in some of these high profile, and high speed wrecks. It just further justifies their position.

I've been dealing with this for over 25 years with owning Vettes, and Ferraris. Same deal, they are designed to Go FAST.

Yeh I am an old fart, 56. I remember my mustang gt insurance when I was younger. They hated it. I then shoved a 390 in it and the hated it more. Wish I still had the car, not as fast as todays gt 500 but looked good getting there.

Not my old one "sistership" HA HA

Problem is we have no one to b1tch to except ourselves.
It's not the agents fault. They would rather give you good rates than gouge you. When the rates are ridiculous the agents hear a lot of b1tching, and that's not fun for them either. Yeah they get commission on the policy but, they also have to pay that BS rate. The agents have been shorted on their commissions also. It's the same old song, the big boys keep getting more of a gap from the little guy. So actually nobody wins except the BIG companies.

Took the words right out of my mouth!

Didn't take too many years before those cars were changed to the point of going away or simply like any other car you could buy with fancy paint and no power!

I did my bitching my not writing a check for the renewal - after enough people do that - it will get their attention.
